If you have any 'b' device on your 'g' network, it will drag the speed of the whole network down to 'b' speeds. This won't be a problem if you only use it for a broadband connection, but you will notice it if you do things like large file transfers or streaming video.

Not entirely true. I have this player and its connected to my 108g network via my netgear DG834GT router and its playing at this moment and both my laptops are still on the network connected at 108Mbps.

It may be true on other routers but with this one its not dragging speed down to 11Mbps.

Yes, of course they say they are connected at that speed, but what speed are they actually communicating at? My computer behaves in the same way.

Hard to tell what speed they are actually communicating at as the transfer between the laptops and the host with files differs everytime I send a file, but if I force my router to 11Mbps only its a hell of a lot slower than when set to auto 108.

Its been chosen as a best budget buy in the latest edition of computer shopper magazine, the only flaw being it doesnt play protected wma files.
I would have brought one myself if i hadnt already spent too much on gadgets.

The Netgear 834 series of routers have a wireless speed protection system which enables g speeds on g devices even if b devices are fitted, lots of other routers do similar, but some don't. I particularly looked for this feature when I was buying a router as I have several g devices and one b...

For what its worth I wouldn't bother with the MP101 though, mine has been slow to navigate/respond and is back in its box in the loft now!

Ooh thanks for that - I stand corrected. It's good that they've sorted that one out.
