The problem is that no sooner does someone build a better mousetrap than someone else builds better mice.
Always bear in mind the fact that anti-virus producers can only prevent something they know about and by then it's already too late for some poor devil.
I never even open an email from anyone I don't recognise, no matter how similar the name is to someone I know or do business with. I simply delete it straight away.
If it's that important, they'll contact me soon enough by some other means.
Banks & Mortgage Providers will never email you, they'll usually write.
If they phone, don't tell them anything over the phone. Just be polite and say that you'll get back to them on the number you usually use to contact your bank. If they are genuine they will understand.
Don't call them back on any number they give you during their phone call.
Always call them on the number given on your Bank Statement or a document that you know is from your bank.
These people may seem very plausible, but plausibility is the con-artist's stock-in-trade. So, take your time and keep control of the situation by reacting only in the way you know is safe. Good luck and take care.

Do we have an e-mail address for reporting these phishing e-mails to the Royal Bank of Scotland?
