What's going on with my Asda? Out of date products

Options
I have just bought 3 pack of juices for hubby's packed lunches tomorrow, popped them in the basket, paid, went home...

Got into the kitchen, made his lunch up, wne to put the drink carton it and noticed the best before date 17/07/06....2006!

How on earth did something with a BBE from 2006 end up on the shelf?

This is the seond time this week I have had to return something which was out of date, I know it is my own fault, I should check the BBE more carefully but still 2 products in one week, not to mention the mouldy bagels I have a few months ago.

Not one to complain really hard but 2006....2006....c'mon Asda!

Thanks for letting me vent that before I return them in the morning....

Personally i would email head office. You would prob get more joy and recieve a voucher for your trouble. Too easily ignored by the store.

I can confirm Mrs To Be's statement. A friend of mine has recently started sending complaints (where justified) to head offices, and she's got loads of vouchers. I'm following her footsteps in future, instead of being fobbed of with an apology and a replacement.

When I worked there (I worked in entertainment) and was covering on the grocery section, I was filling up the jellies and tried to bring the oldest to the front and this is no joke, the ones at the back were out of date by about 3 years!! Its clear no-one faces up properly and therefore you get some horribly out of date stock. I'm sure they are not all like this but its an example.

Oh and its not your responsibility to have to check that every item is within its best before dates, I check the perishables but this is more to find out when they will go off but it should be assumed that ALL stock on supermarkets shelves is within its best before dates.

Thanks for suggesting complaining direct (Duh - why have I never thought of it before?!?). I keep getting multi-saves at ASDA which don't come off the bill, and although I generally check the reciept before I leave the carpark, sometimes I miss one, and then I never seem to get around to taking the reciept back the next time to complain!
Happened to me this week again, so I just emailed the customer services about it - will see what repsonse I get!

It seems as though no stock rotation is being carried out.

This means the items has been pushed to the back and then new stock replenished in front of it.

As a shopper I try and check all the dates.

I would complain direct to head office.

    buyer beware my ar*e

if a shop sells something, it has the responsibility to sell something that is within it's lifespan.

  • I spoken to Asda customer services today.

Te lady was reallt helpful and apologetic, she said she would pass an e-mail to the store to check their stock rotation (not sure if this will happen though) and she's going to send me a prepaid bag to return the juices to their head office.

They're also issuing me a refund cheque today as well.

In her words, not much good in taking them back to the shop, nothing will be done.

So, yes I think I'll complain higher up if I ever need to again.

    Cheers folks

You must complain to head office, if you complain in store it only gets reported to the store manager, and he will bury the complaint....things like this affect each stores yearkt staff bonus, so the less complaints head office know about, the better the store does!!!!!!!!!!!! Out of date by two years thats really bad and store/department managers are not doing there jobs.

Trading Standards would have a field day, when I worked at morrisons 14 yrs ago there were two areas drilled in that could result in a fine by the TS boys

    1) out of date food on shelf
    2) miss labeled food or aisle label, (ie 5+1 free on label but item being sold only contains 5 items)
    3) miss priced items

Regional manager used to make a point when finding food that morrisions could be fined by emtpying the contents onto the floor in front of customers
