    Hi VS,

I can't think of words to describe somebody who would take such obvious delight in "kicking somebody when they're down;" well I can, but I won't.

My wife and I were declared bankrupt at the same time, and she went to buy a paper from the local shop each evening until our name was in. She let out a little "woop" at the counter and was completely oblivious to what other people thought or said.

I was never ashamed of bankruptcy; it's just one of those things but neither was I proud. I informed my manager at work, and given that I was the Finance Officer I did feel slightly silly.  I reassured my manager by saying that my forecast of when and how much we'd go bust for was "spot on," and there was never any mention of it after that. The other people in the office found out over a period of time, but their comments were more supportive than anything.

Something else you might like to point out to the "slimeball" in the Post Room is that the bankrupt notices appear on the same page as the Massage, Escort and Premium Rate Phone lines.:D :D He doesn't still live at home with Mummy by any chance?

Hi vs - I wouldn't worry too much - some people lead such uninteresting lives that they need to 'feed' on the misery of others.
As far as I am aware, my own bankruptcy did not make the local newspaper, but even if it did I would be comforted by the fact that 'today's newspaper is tomorrow's chip paper'.
    It will soon be forgotten.
    Good Luck.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi vs - sorry you have to deal with little weasels at work. People that take delight in other people's misfortunes, sad little man. I am not working so don't have that problem but I also haven't bought the local paper since I went BR, almost a month ago, I am not interested in seeing it, not bothered who sees it, only the people I really care about, know about it, couldn't give a stuff if anyone that knows me, sees it. Just hold your head up high, at least you have done something about it, whereas who knows what employees in your firm are in trouble re debt...you never know, you might find yourself getting emails for advice from some of them. ;) Keep your chin up!

  • Hi Vscared,

Just to say that a few years ago there was a guy in the office who was BR and was experiencing some problems with regard to the house which was caught up in the problems in some way, his wife wasn't BR. All I felt was sympathy and concern about him, his wife and his problems, and the people in the unit we were in felt the same, took his calls so he could go and sort things, and did whatever we could.

In any group of 400 there must be some idiots, but a lot of people surely will want to be concerned and supportive. Is it possible to just go in, get on with your job quietly and pleasantly, and ride it out.

All the best, and am sure it will all pass by eventually. You might even be asked for assistance from someone else - I was when a group I belong to knew I had become BR.

You know I have many worries about BR, the court and OR but the ad is the least of my worries and should be yours. I'm sorry but F*** anyone else's opinions. Please, please make sure you walk in there looking confident, if not feeling it. Having suffered with anxiety ive realised the more sheepish you appear, the more people dump on you.

Remember no one is ever just what they seem on the surface, especially work colleagues. Think of the people cheating on their partners, in debt themselves, that beat their wives and so on and so forth. Everyone has something, and BR hurts the bankrupt more than anyone!

You have nothing to be ashamed of,

Sherrie Hewson (always thought it was houston!) from Loose women, the one that used to be in all the soaps... went bankrupt last year. The above link has got me hooked on finding celeb bankrupts!
