vscared i'm sorry to hear things are a little bumpy for you.....funny though I used to work with a guy who was exactly the same always bragging about how well he managed & how much cash he had with his flash car & big house near a well known footballer........the thing nobody knew was how much debt this guy really had & he went BR himself not long after me, so you never know someone even though they seem a little mouthy truth is they probably owed more cash than you could ever have dreamed of

    Keep your chin up

Dez-Titute - thanks for that. I actually was taking it out on my OH when I got home. Don't know how he puts up with me sometimes. It was hot and I had been on a long bus journey, so was not in the best frame of mind. I'll apologise to him.

Give him my regards and one of these

    Hello Vscared,

I think everyone's already said all the right things but I just wanted to say how sorry (and angry) I am that you went through that and really, what an absolute creep that man must be! Don't know whether you'll go for the smart rejoinder or dignified silence tomorrow but honestly, either is just fine if it works for you.

It's a senselessly cruel and prurient thing to do to someone, but I daresay it won't be too long before one or two people in your company take you aside to ask for your advice. What can I say? I'm just so sorry, and please, if it happens again, do as Jude suggests and report it to HR.

Lily (not Jude's aunt, though I like to think I'd have had an interesting war if I'd been around then!)

I wouldnt be surprised if the mailroom guy is up to his neck in debt. A "friend" of mine did seem to look down on me a bit for being bankrupt- and whenever I bumped into her seemed to take peverse delight in telling me about how much her hubby earns and where theyre going for their hols this year (knowing full well I'll be holidaying in Casa Dodecanese this year- and probably next year), and their new car etc.

It made me feel quite bad, until another, mutual, friend told me they were maxed out on credit cards and had about 4 loans and were about to take a secured loan to consolidate it all. This may make me a bad person, but now when shes bleating on about the stuff shes bought I find it quite amusing.

First of all I just wanted to say how much I feel for you. Although not the same, I was teaching when pupils at the back of my class started to discuss my bankruptcy, not the nicest thing ever to happen. I know this probably won't make you feel any better but it does die down. Keep your chin up, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

My sympathies to you vscared as I think anyone who takes delight in other peoples misfortunes are the devil in disguise (cue for a song?!)

I was fortunate as I'm a northerner living down south and had recently moved to a new area where nobody knew me so I didn't have to worry about any gossiping. I'm not even sure what paper I would have appeared in!

What I will say though is at the time of my BR, which was in February of this year, I was very touchy about it all but as time moves on I'm not overly bothered who knows about it as it's my business and I had good reasons as to why I had to go BR.
It's not something I advertise but it's happened and two fingers to anyone who looks down their nose at me!

I have family and friends that care for me and I've got my health so as far as I'm concerened, I'm a millionaire already!

Its annoying when poeple are like that and lets be honest judging by the news today about prices going up i would think soon the papers will just print a list of people who have money as most of the country will be going BR and this may well yet become the biggest forum in the world he he
