Hi, my dad says he has done the form, but his bid is still showing. There's only two days left and I am getting worried. He says he got a weird email back from ebay chuntering on about feedback etc, and then another email asking him to complete a customer satisfaction survey. Unfortunately I am 200 miles away from him, or I would sit down and go through it properly.

This is getting stressful! Anyone any ideas on what I or my dad should do? My dad did email the guy and asked him to delete his bid due to incorrect info on his listing, but he has not replied and just updated his auction with a sarky comment about the car being 8 years old and the line "please don't expect a new jeep for the price of a plasma TV", err the bidding is currently over the cost of a plasma tv and anyway, this guy obviously got a bit spooked when my dad turned up with his boiler suit, inspection lamp and tool kit!! He probably thought he was getting some guy who only knew how to check the oil. Plank. So he tried to do it himself, but not working!

    Heeeellllp!!!!

Is it 4584742861? If so, it's now below its reserve, so your dad's bid must have been pulled.
  • As your dads bid was under the reserve he doesnt have to do anything the item must reach its reserve price to be sold.

Good point. I had assumed the bidding had previously gone over the reserve (only just found the item). What you say isn't quite true, though, as if Alley's dad's maximum bid is higher than the current one, another bid by someone else could still take it over the reserve and leave him winning the auction. What say you, Alley?
  • hi

As i understand it when you bid on a reserve price auction if your maximum bid is enough or more than the reserve price it automatically bids up to the reserve price and the reserve is met if it is still saying reserve not met then no 1 has placed a high enough maximum bid to reach the reserve.

Hi, my dad's bid is below the reserve I still thought the seller could still sell at his discretion. Is this not the case then?

  • if it is under the reserve price the seller can offer it to the highest bidder but he would have to do this private, he can not touch your dad in anyway as it will not be sold in ebays eyes.

    Hi,
I think if the auction ends and your dads bid is below the reserve, then your dad is under no obligation to buy the item, when ive had reserves on items and they havent been met then the item didnt get sold. Ebay gave me no option to still sell the item, and if the seller said your dad still had to buy the car then he would be breaking ebay rules as they arent supposed to do that.

If the auction ends below the reserve, then your dad is safe.

Yes there is a chance that the seller could lower the reserve if he does this your dad would be contacted by ebay.
If he doesnt lower his reserve he would have to offer your dad the chance to buy it under the reserve as a second chance offer and your dad can decline.

Masonic, his max bid is pretty high and may well take it over the reserve if someone were to bid it up enough. I emailed him last night to check if he had used the right form to retract feedback, but I've not had a response yet. Will phone him in a bit to check.

Can anyone confirm that by completing the bid retraction form, a retraction should happen straight away or is it for Ebay to decide if the reason is valid first?
