Not like the HGV drivers driving through London. How thick were they? Using fuel (and paying tax) to try to make their point.
GG
Well, at least they werent so thick to just go onto an internet forum whinging about things and actually went out and tried to do something about it.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
At least the HGV drivers got improved fuel efficiency by maintaining an albeit slow speed rather than the usual stop-quick-slow-stop routine0

Every energy company comes out with the same well rehearsed spiel about needing to maintain profit levels to invest in new sources and generation - such as the BG head tonight talking about building the first new power station for 8 years - but why no mention of increasing storage capacity for holding larger stock of energy when wholesale prices are cheaper? Are these energy companies run by idiots? I still remember when every town/city had one or more large gas storage tanks, now sadly mostly all gone. Would we be held over the current barrel if we still had them, I wonder.
This issue of increasing storage was discussed extensively in the recent parlimentary committee on energy with the heads of all the 'Big 6'.
The reason we didn't build the gas storage was because we had excellent storage facilities - under the North sea!
Several multi-£billion storage facilities are being built/planned but they have been delayed by people concerned about the environmental concerns(NIMBY or genuine)
Even so these storage facilities will only store sufficient gas for a few extra days - even if we get the same amount of storage as the best in Europe. It isn't the solution to the price increases - that is largly determined by world energy prices.
The old gas storage facilities in every town were to store the gas produced from our now defunct coal industry.
The reason why the UK have to now import gas is that the coal industry was decimated by Maggie to smash the power and influence that Scargill exerted.
It was too easy to 'loot' the huge supplies of North Sea gas for power stations etc.0 -
Which, if any, of the main energy companies are fully British owned?0
