NEW British Gas Fixed to 30 Sept 2011

British Gas have just announced a fixed product to 30 September 2011.

I moved to the British Gas Fixed to 12 Dec 2009 last week. I believe I can cancel this within 14 days if I want to.

I reckon it'll cost me about £150 a year more than the 2009 product but it lasts for nearly two years longer.

Will I save in the long run?

And therefore should I cancel my 2009 fix and change to this one?

The key question is now they have increased there prices, the fixes tarif isn't exactly going to offer good value!

Was it not all a lot simpler when there was one supplier and you paid a flat rate.

I cant believe the overheads for running all these private companies and paying shareholders a profit is more efficient to the end user than a nationalised energy supply company.

No matter what deal you are on most of us will lay awake at night wondering if we've done the right thing.

Personally I hate the whole damn thing

    Fixed 2011 prices (inc. VAT):

    Gas: 7.3p (first 670kWh per Q)/ 3.55p (rest)
    El: 25.31p (First 125kWh per Q) / 12p (rest)

can anyone work out the increase of this tariff compared to click energy 5 (roughly)

    I'm with Ebico

EquiGas costs 2.86p per kWh including VAT.
General Domestic tariff 11.20p per KWh (inc VAT)
    • one low rate for everyone
    • no standing charges
    • no alteration to our flat rate however you pay and however much – or little – energy you use.

Those British Gas prices are nothing short of DISGUSTING!!!! :rotfl:

in fact i'd happily stay with Ebico and take the price hits than join the British Gas 2011 tarif!

Based on gas going up 35%, and el going up 9%, click 5 would cost (based on my region, Southern):

    Gas: 8.05p/3.38p
    El: 22.73p/9p

So Fixed 2011 is about the same for gas, more expensive on el.

I slept through it all too. :( (we're still on standard tariffs).

Not sure about opting for the 2011 as it sounds very similar to the click 5 online tariff.

If we just go for the click 5 tariff NOW, are we tied into it for a minimum period or can we jump to another supplier a month or two later?

I guess it all depends on your view of what will happen in the next 2-3 years.

Part of me wonders if British Gas is trying to get us to 'panic buy' a long fixed product, knowing that the prices may actually come back down during that period.

Anyone got a good crystal ball?

I'm really nervous now, I've got a rather low electricity bill in general [I'm a fanatic at switching things off .... ] apparently - £45/month. I am considering changing from SWALEC Standard to British Gas 2011 capped tarrif but I get so confused with one set of prices coming out at £620/annum, one at £580/annum and yet another at £685/annum, and all this without Quidco! I simply feel like putting my head under the pillow and just paying the bill, month after month and trying to forget about it all.... what's a girl to do??
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D

I agree. What we need is a goverment that has the 'Balls' to nationalise all the utilities and then profits will be passed on to us instead of the shareholders.
