Argos Cheat!!!!!

Argos sold me a used Vacuum cleaner now they won`t exchange or refund it. Theyre explanation is that it`s been used which is the case because they sold it in that condition. I bought on friday then gave it back the very next day because it was late friday. Then they just shoo`d me away. Then i called the head office and they said i should go back and they will surely refund it this time. But they still not taking it back..Can anyone suggest what can be done about my situation and what are my rights.

Thank you.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear about argos, they did the same to me last week I went to exchange a sewing machine that I bought for my mum it was unused and they wouldnt exchange or refund coz they were stating it was used....they finally took it back after an hour of arguing also went to get another machine from another store to match them..(pathetic) if u ask me.. Well forget about me & back to YOU!! lol

If they can cheat you, you can cheat them if your still in your 30 days take it to another argos they usually have 2/3 per city/town....and tell them it makes a terrible noise after 10/15 minutes of using it and that it wont take the dirt in properly. tell em its faulty and you want a refund.

    Hope to help money saver...

Sorry to cheat you argos but u can take the p*** sometimes.:beer::beer:

    Let me know how it goes TA X x x x x

Get the name of someone from head office and go to the store with the details. If not, demand that they call head office while you are there, or make the call youself. If the item was not as decribed (new) then you have a right to a refund/replacement.

Check AdviceGuide and/or consumer direct and print out info to take with you to waggle in their face :D

I had a similar problem but fortunately I could take the goods straight back, it was a camera and opened it in a cafe about 5 minutes after buying it so they couldn't really argue that one.

I am in agreement with the message from slick-chick85. But if i am right and im sure i am - you get a 1 years warrenty from date of purchase for faulty items AND you can demand a refund rather than a replacement!!
The 30 days is for returns in sold conditions. If you havent already....... go back to that SAME store and say, hi, me again, its making the most awful racket and there doesnt always seem to be any suction - this would mean the product to be faulty therefore you are entitled to refund or replacement. I dont agree with cheating - but if the store is, why can't you - you only wanted a replacement brand new model i take it and they should have provided one, with a big smile on there face!!! :D I had this problem with Argos a few years back......... I bought a kettle for my sister as a moving in present, wrapped it, gave to her 7 days later, when she opens it, there is limescale inside so had been used previously but store refused me replacement or refund as i had ''obviously'' used it in the past 7 days. I tried to explain but the daft lady was having none of it - so i went back the next day and told the same lady that it was no longer working as would cut off half way through boiling,;) i got a replacement straight away but was offered a refund if i wanted - needless to say, i checked the kettle there and then and all was shiny and new. Hope it all works out for you!! :o

There is no need to lie!
Speak to Head Office, get them to speak to the store and let them know you are coming in again. They have no choice but to refund or exchange if you are telling the truth! They could easily check whether it works and it has suction if you return it and lie.

Hi i did call the head office and i told them that it was already used and it was not sucking properly(which was actually the case) and they said that i should return to the store and they will definitely refund it, but when i got there they said theyres nothing wrong with it so i telled them to call the headoffice but they were very clever and also convinced the Headoffice guys that theyre is nothing wrong with it.
  • Well go to another store, different staff, different people etc. Tekll them it works for 10 minutes and then the suction goes on it they wont make you stand there for 10-15 mins whilst they try it out + they will have to try it in front of you, the noise, other customers will be there coz not allowed to take you round the back.;..trust me they should refund.

Good luck let us know how you get on.

  • That is appalling customer service Wahiad! Can't believe how you have been treated especially after Head Office said you won't encounter a problem!!!

I had a similar prob with their Customer Service recently too - in April I took back a Deep Fat Fryer that I had bought last May, which had developed a fault.

Admittedly I couldn't find the receipt (unusual for me) but I had paid the £14.99 by part Nectar points (£2.50) and part Switch (£12.49) so took the statement in as proof. However when the CA looked in the current and previous catalogues she couldn't find the same model and at first refused to refund me.

I explained that at the time I bought it I was told that the model I bought would be different to the catalogue model (unsure why) and she then said 'How do I know you bought it from Argos?'

Erm, it was a 'Cookworks' model that is only available in Argos!!! :rotfl:!!!

She then decided that the only thing to do was refund me the last selling price of the nearest looking model which actually was £14.99 (the same as I had paid,) but even though I told her that I had paid £14.99 and had proof of it she only refunded me £12.49 because my statement showed £2.50 less than the catalogue price (cos of the Nectar points)! Even then she only gave me a gift card and not a Switch credit! Although I shop there a lot so wasn't too fussed by that.

Phew, what a bl00dy palaver - you'd think it was coming out of her bl00dy wages the fuss she made!!! I'd understand the grief if I had NO proof of purchase but I had!

Had nothing but grief TBH whenever I have taken things back to Argos, with or without a receipt. And Sainsburys too for that matter!

Persevere Wahiad and send in the ars3iest letter you have even written! Let us know how you get on :)

Hi thank you for all you replies and suggestions, I had to send to the manufactures(i gave up on asking Argos for a refund after the third visit) and know it`s working good, but the fact still remains that Argos sold me a faulty and used(possibly second hand) item, i don`t know about anyone else but i`m not buying from argos again. BE WARNED ARGOS IS SELLING RETURNED AND FAULTY GOODS TO IT`S CUSTOMER, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU BUY FROM THEM.!!!!!!:T:T:T:T
