sorry to disagree with you thunderbird, but the only time ive ever had my brake pedal fading is due to air in the brake fluid, if kwik sh*t have not bled the brakes this may be a constant problem. take it back and ask them to bleed the brakes.
i wouldnt have bothered with the cat,i would hyave done the brakes if they were required, but as others have mentioned they probably didnt need done in the first place....work permit granted!0 -
I will back thunderbird up as spongy brakes are normall after new pads untill they bed in with the disks, but it shouldn't last for that long maybe 20 miles on normal roads where you use your brakes. but yes air in the brake lines can cause the same thing. the reason is that air is compresable, brake fluid isnt as compresable but as it has have work done then I would suspect it is the pads needing to bed in before air in the brake lines.
Yet again kwick fit get money that they proberbly didn't deserve from doing work that didn't need doing. My brake pads are worn but only about 40% gone but they are worn in kwick fit terms and they play on your fears that you will get them replaced. I needed a tyre urgently and had to go to kwik fit as they and national are the only places that stock my tyres i got the speil about my brakes so i took it to the place that usually look after my car and they were fine0 -
Never thought id say this but to be fair to kwik fit i took my car to have the air con regassed, they could only get it down by 2 Celsius so it was not much better, they did not charge me- it was outside their 10% percent colder rule so they could have tried to charge me. Im sure a so-called air con specialist would have done the same result and still charged.
Having said all that i would never take my car there for anything mechanical, you would have been better for a second opinion on your items.0 -
On the subject of Kwik sh*t, just seen a receipt from them in my log book from the previous seller for £500+!!
That includes new tyres all round, new disks and a full service.
They must have been laughin when the owner accepted!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

not had spongey or fading brakes with new ones...maybe feel a bit wooden for a few miles
wonder if they fitted cheapie pads or genuine ones...0 -
I wonder if the seals in the master cylinder are failing. If they're going to go, they tend to do it when you bleed the brakes.0

The likely chance your brakes and cat needed changing are very small especially on the advice of Kwik fit. I have family and friends who work for the chain and the managers have quite large targets to meet and seems like common practice to frighten the customer for extra work. Even if you asked for the old parts back, no doubt the discs would'nt even yours but from a differant car. I feel sorry for people who get blagged by them.0

I heard a rumour that Kwik Fit salesfolk are on minimum wage but make up their salary with commission, hence the reason they try to flog you stuff. Not sure if there's any truth in it but it's certainly commensurate with some of the stories you hear.
That said, I had an oil service done there and they were more than helpful, dind't try to flog me anything, and didn't use any scare tactics. So I was impressed!#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET
