I used link to the energyhelpline price comparison website for both gas & electricity and it gave me a figure of £784 per year for monthly direct debit with npower. I then went onto the npower website and entered the same figures, same payment method etc. It gave me a figure of £902 per year. The npower website stated that prices were valid from 17th February 2006 so they were current prices.
I find it disappointing that the energyhelpline comparison is so far out (a dig at the energyhelpline site not this one). At a time when a lot of people are going to be making such comparisons to give such misleading information, on which people may make decisions, is poor.0 -
After Listening to Martin yesterday on Radio 2, and as I have never Switched and I am, and allways have been with Southern Electric I thought I would visit uswitch.com as advised by Martin.
We Use electricity only and pay by monthly fixed ammount direct debit and are on Economy 7 Super Deal.
Unfortunatly uswitch were unable to offer a supplier who was cheeper than my current supplier in fact it would cost me a lot more, as my account is in credit at the moment ( After a Winter Period ) I am expecting a reduction in my monthly Direct Debit. Any ideas on a cheeper supplier ? or should I bother switching ?0 -

npower have at least three different Sign Online tariffs. The exisiting new customer only tariff (Sign Online 4) was introduced in mid-February and is much cheaper than the others. If you joined npower before mid-February you will be on one of the other tariffs.
There is a problem with the online comparison sites in that when it comes to selecting your existing supplier if you choose npower they only give one choice of Sign Online tariff which appears to be based on the latest cheapest prices. If you are on a different Sign Online tariff the comparison will be inaccurate.
Does anyone know if any of the comparison sites allow you to choose from the different npower Sign Online tariffs?
There may be a similar problem with EDF Energy which is the parent company for London Energy, SWEB and SEEBoard.0 -

Just got a cq for £15 today. call me a cynic but as the cq is hand writen and signed it makes me think that they are not writing out many and only to the people who keep phoning up and asking where their cash is. Or maybe they employ someone to just write cheques.O0 -
All 10 comparison services showed that London Energy could save me around £300 a year, but when i looked at their kwh prices, it was obvious that none of the services had included London Energy's recent price rise, which has been there since the 13th. And as mentioned above, London Energy isnt available in my area either, but the much less discounted parent company EDF is.
I am with Powergen on their standard tariff, and Powergen Online came up as a £200 saving. I rang Powergen, who said they thought that the "comparison services" had been fed the wrong tariffs, and they said that the only difference was that the "online" service gave an extra 2% discount...........a lot short of the £200 saving. I will ring back tomorrow for confirmation of this.0 -
The comparison services are currently able to offer some online tariffs which are cheaper than standard and have not been subject to the same price rises.
Notably this includes EDF companies, London Energy, SWEB and SEEBoard and npower.0
