Wifi phones... does it cost to use wifi?
I am looking at buying a second have MDA vario or similar.
If I use it at home on my wireless network or out and about on wifi hotspots.... will I get charged for accessing the internet or downloading data?
Also, do the phones make it obvious that you are using WIFI instead of the normal pay for service?
Ta!

Nokias can be set up to ask which connection to use every time.
WIFI will cost you what it would cost you to use it off, say, a laptop. If it's "free wifi" (e.g. McDonalds or JD Wetherspoon pubs), then it's free. If you have to pay for hotspot access, it costs what it costs.
If you use it at home, it's costing you your normal broadband rental.
It is still WIFI - nothing special about it, just it's on your phone. The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Not really. The icon is different, but the phone prefers to use GPRS to WiFi.
For example, if I open Opera Mini and go to a site, it will automatically open a GPRS connection and show that it is doing so. Annoying thing is if you cancel it, it tries to open the connection again. And again. And again.
If I had enabled WiFi before I started Opera, it would just use the WiFi connection to do its business. I have only seen it swap connections in order to pick up an MMS message, and that was to swap from Mobile data to Wap data. I don't know if it will swap from WiFi to mobile or WAP as I haven't seen it try.*I reserve the right to have an opinion, the right to change this opinion and the right to be wrong.*Hope that helps.
