Currently with EDF, should I switch?

Sounds like a silly question, I know!

I've just been on energyhelpline and the nearest dual fuel capped tariff (Scottish Power) is 25% more than what I'm currently paying, does it sound like I should switch?

I saw Martin on GMTV, and want to make the switch ASAP, if I should, but can't work out if it's for the best or not, lol!

I am with EDF and was considering taking the scottish power deal up but I just think its really expensive so instead I have requested a switch to npower who are cheaper than EDF but it is not a capped rate. I have decided to see how I go with them and if they put their prices up I will have the option to then switch to another energy provider as it says in their T&C that if they increase their rates and you are not happy to are free to move to another provider. It has been said that all other energy providers will be putting their prices up also so I'm waiting to see what happens and maybe have a rethink then.

Wht kind of tariff are you currently on with EDF?

If you are already on a capped/fixed with EDF and it is cheaper than any other caped/fixed, then no, of course you should not switch.

If you are on a standard rate though then I think fixing is a good idea because there will be another price rise later in the year. Also with the price rise that EDF made the other day, how can you be sure you are comparing properly? Are you taking this rise into account?

Just switched to scottish power fixed till aug 09, and mine worked out over £200 cheaper than EDFs new prices. Don't forget £72 quidco on top of that.

I'm on the dual fuel v3 with EDF and I have taken the current rise into account and I am much worse off than if I move to npower and even if they increase which I'm sure they will, I would still be better off than staying with EDF.

I am on the online V5 with EDF and all the others are still coming up more, at least £92 over year.

Does anyone know if uswitch etc have been updated yet, as I am sure this is same as before price increase.

    I pay £30 a month on each, so a total of £720, we are a careful-well I am,family of 4.

So if my maths are right, the other 1 is 13% more, to cap it`s more like 3o% more.

    Help, what should I do?

Until I get exact figures on what my new tarriff then I can't do anything. Am also on online v5.

looking at the websites my gas is pretty easy to match but my electric is sometimes £300 per year more with anyone else, I have a pretty steady consumption and my band 2 units are only 5.5p per unit. Can't get that anywhere else.
    Nothing to see here

I've just emailed EDF asking for up-to-date Online v5 prices and to find out whether they have been increased as well...I'll post once I get an answer.

Until then I'm in the same boat not knowing whether to switch or not!

I emailed EDF at the week end and was told they had gone up 17 and 22%, but others have been told other things.

So not sure what to do.

Well I've asked EDF for exact amounts and I've also just emailed Moneysupermarket to see if they'd updated their site yet so I'll see what they both say and at least I'll have it in writing either way.

It seems strange though that USwitch, moneysupermarket and energyhelpline would all fail to update their sites...but knowing our luck there will be an increase!

I am EDF Online v1. Yes v1 - we have been with them for 7 years I think. Should we cap or ride out the wave?? We pay £35 per month for electricity and £55 per month for gas. Any advice would be appreciated.
