There has been a paypal glitch recently with valid claims being refused etc at first. Call them and explain the situation, but be persistent.

well i managed to get through to them and they are insistent that the only way i am going to get my money back is by going to the police about it.

i think this is an absolute cop out and if i thought for one minute it would make the slightest bit of difference i would complain to paypal but what is the point. it will cost me more money in time off and petrol to get to the police station than it will to just swallow the loss.

seriously bad way to do business IMO.
  • I would think it's more a Trading Standards matter than a police one. Afaik usual police procedure in such instances is to tell the consumer it's not really their department and recommend they contact Trading Standards instead, but if you phone the local police and explain that Paypal have insisted you should contact them they might be able to supply you with a reference number to prove you've been in touch.

Do you think that paypal is trying to put people off claiming their money back. Theres been a few reports from sellers that since they now cannot leave negative feedback for buyers that buyers are putting in far more claims. If paypal makes it harder to claim your money back you will be less likely to bother especially if your making a wrongfull claim? (i dont mean you personally just in general)

They did the same to me a few months ago over a “significantly not as described” dispute.

I sent them a polite but firm email pointing out that it was not a police matter and they agreed to proceed without it.

How about requesting sellers contact details, that'll give yo a telephone number.

I get the impression a lot of people hardly ever check their emails.

They asked me to do the same.

I went to 2 police stations and they practically laughed at me, but wouldn't do anything as it was a Trading Standards issue.

I contact Paypal and explained the situation, and they told me that someone will contact me to see if there is another option.

I was contacted again and told to go to the Police station again, I refused and my claim was rejected.
It was for £20 and it had dragged on for nearly 2 months (had my case re-opened), so I left it.

It is a cop out in my opinion.
