Help Pls - Porting my mobile number onto another sim card
Hi All,
I wish to port my '3' mobile number over to another provider (Virgin 02 etc) and back over onto '3' - inorder to take advantage of a better '3' offer whilst maintaining my mobile number.
So i now have my PAC code from '3' and wish to move over to another sim.
Can you please help me on the following points:
1,I have some sims with various offers from Virgin, O2 etc but all the sims have there own predetermined numbers. Can i use one of these sims and ask the provider to change the number over to my exisiting mobile number? or do i need a 'blank' sim - if so where can i get one please?
2, how quickly should a ported number begin to work on the new network?
3, Can i port the number over from '3' onto the new network and then more or less immediatley port the number back over to '3' to get the phone up and running back with 3 on my improved deal?
4, - Will the providers esp. 3 - 'get funny' if i make the number porting
look blatant.
5, Finally have i overlooked anything?
Many, many thanks in advance if you are able to help me out with this.
regards huggins

just use an existing SIM, the 'pre-determined' number will be replaced with your number you are porting. I just put my number from Orange to a SIM I got free from Virgin a while ago. A ported number works on the ported network from when it gets ported. It may just be a bit hit and miss on the day of the port as the 2 networks synchronise. Not sure of any real minimum with Virgin before you can request to port. Also have you actually checked with 3 they won't put you on new deal without having to port out?0

1, more question - will my PAC number remain the same? ie the PAC i got from '3' then give to vigin to port number. Then when i want to move the number back from virgin to '3' will i use exactly the same PAC code or will virgin have assigned a new PAC and i will have to get this from them?
yes checked with 3 and they were trying to put me onto a £35 a month contract from a £4 a month contract if i wanted to retain my number!!!!
So i have had to order the new phone deal and will then port number over to another sim (thus cancelling) muy existing contract and port back onto the new deal to activate.
At least that's the plan and I hope it works as i use the phone fro my business conatct.
thansk for your help0 -
PAC codes are unique for one port as the first 3 characters of the code are the name of the network you leave i.e. Orange PAC codes are ORG12345. Once it expires or is used to port a number it can't be used again(until it gets reissued some time in the future when the digits wrap around). You'll get a new PAC code from Virgin when you want to do the 2nd port i.e. VIR12345 or something like that0
