house deeds destroyed

Does anyone know how I can get a duplicate set of house deeds? My ex wife, who is still living in the house has seen fit to burn them in an effort to stop me selling, I think. The house is paid for, so the deeds were in the property, not at the building society.

You ought to check on the Land Registry
Compulsory registration has only been around for a few years so it might not have been necessary to have your purchase registered when you bought. When did you buy?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

As long as its registered at the Land Registry - if it hasn't been sold since compulsory registration came in it may not be.
Landregistry online allows a search for about £3.0 -

You can't confirm anything of the sort!
It depends if the land is registered or unregistered land. If it is the latter (not that likely, in the case of a normal house) then there is nothing electronic and title does have to be proved....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
It will cost nothing to put your address and postcode in the LR site to see if your house is registered or not. If its not, you have problems!0

Read the original post! the title deeds were burnt again!
Given that is reasonable to assume that it is registered and they live in a "normal" house rather than complicate it.
If the last transaction on the property was many many years ago and the property is unregistered (rare these days) then the biggest problem is not necessarily absent title deeds - which can be overcomed - but if the OP's OH has an interest in the property then the biggest problem is simply refusing to sign any authority to permit sale thereof."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
My parents bought an unregistered house 4 years ago.
The freehold to the block of flats I live in is unregistered.
