  • Hi Krafty,

Most broadband providers are very stricy about these limits, but some like NTL let you over the limit but if you start going over they charge you about £1 per gig.
  • Hi Krafty,

Well the month is over now so you will know just how generous F2S are. I have been with them for about 4 years and moved to the 5Gb then automatically to the 10Gb when the doubled it for free over a year ago.

Provided that you don't abuse the monthly quotas by going *way* over each and every month, F2S are excellent. I sometimes go over my 10Gb cap - to say 11Gb at worst, sometimes I use less than 10Gb. I have never had to pay for extra bandwidth, but I do moderate my behaviour during the month if I am approaching the limit. Another good thing about F2S is the free/unlimmited downloads between 1am and 6am every day which do not contribute towards your capped limit. As I'm often awake in the wee small hours it suits me - or you can schedule your downloads for this period.

I think you have chosen wisely.

Why not upgrade to the connect plus (i think) with no download limits?

I asked F2S how they charge & they told me they will NEVER bill you without your permission. If you go over, you get a holding page in your browser, with a link to purchase 1Gb for £1.50. If 2Gb is a bit tight for you, you can regrade to the £19.99 10Gb package easily for a fiver admin fee I think. All depends on your usage.

I was approaching my 10Gb last month with F2S & realised the stats page is updated the following day & reset at the start of the new month. I went full tilt on the last day downloading over 2GB, knowing the stats would be reset for the new month.
Unfortunately they added my extra usage onto the first day of this month  . What is strange is their calculations of your usage on your members page, mine currently says just 181Mb metered downloaded, despite having 2.5GB on day 1! The formatting is a bit out, but I've pasted the totals below, notice the full use of the unmetered hours (Netlimiter & windows task manager come into their own here).

Like johnniegif says, you made a good choice with F2S, although Pipex have now bought them we'll have to see if they stay as good as they are.

Netlimiter basically throttles down the speed of applications & allows you to set a schedule Website here. So you could slow down your Bittorrent client down to 1Kbs all day, but set it to unlimited between 1AM-6AM. In my case I use Windows Task Manager to start up ABC (my BT Client) at 1AM & close it at 6AM. For this to work you need to start your torrents running & then close ABC, windows fires it up at 1AM & closes it at 6AM. You have to make sure any "do you want to exit" prompts are turned off, Task Manager aint that clever.
