What you need to do is contact your energy supplier as it is up to them to sort this out, if they fail to do so you then contact either enerygwatch or ofgemI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -

The meter serial number on your bill should match that on your bill (not M or S number). What you don't say is gas/elec? credit/prepay? If you can post answers to these plus both serial numbers I may be able to advise you more.
the meter serial number does not normally appear on the billsI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Ok - let me explain.
On your bill, you have something called an "MPAN" (for Electricity) or an "MPRN" (for Gas). This is a number unique to your property. If you were to move house, it would not come with you, it would stay in the house. If they change your meter (perhaps an upgrade or whatever) the MPAN stays the same as it's directly related to your house, but the serial number of the meter would change as it is a different meter. The numbers that make up your MPAN or MPRN relate to your distributor, or the people who own and maintain the pipework leading up to your house, supplying you with gas (or the lines suppling you with electricity). These are not yours or your suppliers (the person who you pay for the utility) responsibility. They are only used to distinguish individual supplies and to help stop 'mix ups' from happening.
Serial numbers are written on your meter. MPAN/MPRN's are not; this is because this number is needed to switch suppliers. It is, by law, on your bill, and energy suppliers have computer systems that allow them to search by your property's address to find the MPAN or MPRN.
One the reasons that it is not on your meter is to help stop something called 'Erroneous transfers' from happening. This is when a supplier moves you over to their services without your permission. (This is extremely illegal and get in touch with who you think should be supplying you if you think this has happened.)
If you are worried, give your supplier a ring and just check that the serial number (that is on your meter) corresponds with the serial number they have on file, and that the MPAN (for gas) or MPRN (for electric) also corresponds with the number they have on file.
Hope that helps!0 -

terms with those at number 3 and 23 there MPRN/MPAN and meter serial number. Armed with all this information to hand contact you supplier and example you believe have a 'crossed meter' (wrong meter in wrong house). They can then investigate this using several sources (not only internal) and hopefully end up with the correct meter details against the correct MPRN/MPAN.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

It really is important to get this problem resolved. I had the wrong S supply number on the bottom of my electricity because of a house number change 10 years ago - at one point I went 9 months between electricity bills, and they used estimated readings that didn't reflect my real usage. The meter tied to that S number had been disconnected/removed but it's estimated readings were used to bill me. It took 10 years, a £700 bill (since written off) at £18 a week, and countless phone calls to get my correct meter number tied to my correct S and account numbers.0
