  • We have foxes in every night . And i would love to get rid of the things. They have ruined two goal nets by chewing them. They have also broken the trampoline enclosure zip by chewing it. The foxes had a litter of six cubs last year and about the same again this year. something will have to be done eventually they are a pest. If any shoes get left out by the kids overnight they are ruined. I spray the back fences and trampoline and goal with tea tree oil and clove oil. I think it helps a bit. Lots of the neighbours feed them which doesnt help the situation.

I get foxes in my garden but while I can smell them they don't really do that much damage. They do dig up the occasional bulb. The squirrels who come into my garden do far more damage as they dig plants up, bulbs up and eat flowers - I've caught them in the act.

One of my friend's gets foxes in her garden who dig under the fence into the neighbours' gardens leaving massive holes. They also have a tendency to randomly dig up her flowers - by that you can plant up a pot and for months it's fine then one day they will just decide to dig it up. Also if you leave anything out i.e. a garden tool, shoe, glove then you can find it with bite marks elsewhere in the garden or on the street. You also find random things in her garden and you know it's been put there by foxes because it smells of fox. You can actually see them playing with things they find if you look out of her windows at night, and they don't hide from people. They also can make a lot of noise calling to each other. They are a nuisance but her home was built on an old factory site which was derelict for years so the foxes where there before the houses.

In another house I use to live in there was a family of foxes at the end of the large garden. As there was a very large cat in the house next door the foxes tended to leave the garden well alone otherwise he would chase them. If the cat saw a fox on the street he would chase it off. When the cat moved I saw a lot more of the foxes and the neighbouring cats on the road.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

We have an isoltaed house, so no effect on the neighbours

Therefore, we are happy to feed our tame fox

He usually checks the garden for stuff every night as part of his rounds

We have some urban foxes come around and root through bins and dig up the garden. Any suggestions for deterrants? They are quite a pest where we are.

We get all sorts in our garden as we back onto a canal. Ducks regularly dig up stuff and lay eggs all over the place. We came down to the back half of a kitten a few weeks back...it had been got at by a fox no doubt. It was not a nice experience to be honest.

As we live in the country, there is really little we can do. i buy the Silent Roar lion pellets and sprinkle them around the boundaries every now and then.

We have had foxes living in our grounds, particularly the woodland area, for the past 30 odd years. Currently we have three separate families living here in harmony, and their extensive burrows are an amazing feat of engineering. Yes, they can be a nuisance sometimes, particularly when you've just planted up a flower bed ... they just can't resist excavating freshly dug soil.

Despite that inconvenience, I'm happy to accommodate them simply for their entertainment value. Every evening we put out scraps on the lawn a little way from our patio, and it is a joy each year to see the vixens bringing down their new-born cubs to feed.

As for protecting the flower beds, I have found that low-cost pepper dust, sprinkled liberally around the border of each bed, works quite well at keeping them off.

Got an old dog fox which comes through the field quite often - one of the mares will chase him off when she sees him. Get more problems with the rabbits - there seems to have been an explosion of them since the last batch of myxi - fox isnt doing his job!! He will occassionally come in the garden but doesnt stop when he scents the dog

At my last house our garden backed onto an allotment and we used to get foxes coming over. I think they were attracted to our rabbits and over the course of a few months they proceeded to kill several of them :(

They didn't do any damage to the garden though and it was a joy to watch the baby cubs rolling around and playing in the garden on a summer morning. Strangely enough they didn't bother with my cats and neither were the cats bothered by them
