Can you recomend a digital recorder?

Hi, I need to buy a digital recorder to record things from the television to use for teaching. I need to get the programmes on to a DVD to show via a computer in the classroom (can't be in any other format than DVD). Can anyone recommed a product to purchase to do this. i don't mind spending a little bit on the investment…
