advice on Orange please?

I'm on an 18 month contract with Orange and got it 7 months ago. I have tried to reduce my tariff (as I'm paying £50 a month and am not using anywhere near the mins I have).

Orange told me you cannot change tariff until you've had the contract for 9 months. Is there any way around this? My mobile bill is killing me every month!

Cheers, Joanne x

Sadly, the rule is you can only change down after 9 months, although you can change up at any point. The reason behind it is that dealers used to put people on really high tariffs, get a shed load of commission and tell the customers to ring up and change the tariff back down again after a month. Orange were out of pocket over the commission paid, so really it's all the dealers faults

Even then you will only be allowed to drop once to the next lowest plan !!!!

"You will not be able to switch to a lower Service Plan for the first 6 months of a 12 month contract, the first 9 months of an 18 month contract or the first 12 months of a 24 month contract. After the first 6, 9 or 12 months, as appropriate, you may switch to the next lowest value Service Plan once only for the remainder of your contract term. You are able to switch to an equivalent or higher Service Plan at any time."

I just logged into my orange account and it let me downgrade. I am 6 months into an 18 mont contract. Was on Racoon 35 (£35 p/m 700 mins and 100 texts). Downgraded to Racoon 25 (£25 p/m 300mins and 100 texts).
    Will keep you informed.
