    After formatting its empty.

    Whats susposed to be in there?

    Its usually a bootable partition based on the recovery DVDs you receive with your computer. If you received recovery DVDs you don't need the backup partition, just don't lose the disks!

    Dell, operating system reinstallation DVD?

    That sounds like it, doesn't it.

    Can I copy it to the D drive? Is that what was there?

    Yes I have an external hard drive, thats how I ended up backing up stuff to the D drive. I couldn't work the external HD properly, but I have now.

    I wouldn't worry about it. You have the Dell restore disks so if anything goes wrong you will need to put the first disc in and it will restore from the disk, the hard disk partition is just incase you lose the disc. You could insert the disk now and restore the ENTIRE computer but all of the data you have put on it would be lost. Its probably not worth trying to put the dell data back onto that drive since its not as simple as copying and pasting, the partition would have to be made bootable.

    Just leave it :)
