Hope this is the right board, After reading on this site that sometimes when you pay by direct debit, BT keep some of your money back, I phoned them today and asked them if i had any money over paid and to pay it back into my account. it amounted to £77.00 which will be back into my account in about 5 days. I was struggling to keep my head above water and not get into the red and have to pay charges on my bank account. so I am really grateful for the advice. This is a great site thankyou to who ever mentioned it some time ago.

Did you also ask them to adjust your monthly payment?0

Is it not the case that if you pay BT by direct debit monthly that you pay what you actually owe rather than a set amount each month. This might be better for you?

I have asked them to change my account back to paper bills, so I can pay at the post office, I have just signed up to get cheap calls with 1899. so will only be paying rental with BT. Hopefully I will be more in charge of my money.
now I have done this I will when I pluck up courage, to change my bank account who never pay interest on my current account.0 -
One thing to remember is with BT your line rental is £1 cheaper a month if you pay it by direct debit, £12 a year will pay for a lot of calls via 18990

not on thier budget account, they set a monthly average amount equal to your last 3 bills, for new customers they set your monthly D/D at 1/3 of your credit limit for the quarter - if its too high your quids in but missing intrest from it being there instead of the bank, also if you are paying to much they only reduce the monthly D/D @ your request down to an amount to cover the last 3 bills at an average of £XX a month, hope that makes senseIf I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
Don't forget that you can have monthly bills with BT rather than quarterly which means the direct debit (saving £1) is only ever the same amount as the actual bill,so there is never any overpayment.0

To avoid confusion with the last couple of posts. The OP says here she has signed up for 1899 and intends using them for her calls and will only be paying BT for her line rental.
If this is the case she will be £12 per year better off by paying this by dd monthly
Also might be an idea for the OP to read this thread about JustDial for free evening and w/end calls and use 1899 for any daytime calls.0 -
All these replys have really got me thinking, could i just pay line rental with direct debit? so that it would be £12 a year cheaper,0

Sorry we obviously cross posted there, yes if you pay it monthly by dd you will be saving £120
