Free phone plus £55 profit - am I missing something?!

  • I don't knwo if this is the same thing but my partner has a contract mobile on 02 & gets cash back every 3 months. He pays up front each month for the contract (£30) & every 3rd month, he has to send a form to them to claim all his rental back, he normally gets a cheque then within 5 days. He got his deal through Carphone Warehouse.

Your profit won't quite be £55, as it's generally recommended on here that you send off for the cashbacks using special delivery which costs a fiver a time.

@ hotkee: the deal the OP linked isn't for a clearance phone. The Pink J700 M2YD have is clearance, but the black one isn't.

    I've been Money Tipped!
The "clearance" phone will be guaranteed for at least 12 months. If it goes faulty, you get it repaired.
This is one of the safest deals going at the moment from a dealer. You would have to be very, very unlucky for Phones4u to go bust in 12 months.
To me, it's not much of a gamble for what is achievable.

It is a Vodafone contract and comes with a Samsung J700 Pink phone, does anyone know if the phone is locked ?

I expect it will be locked.

But just phone 191 on the phone and say you want the unlock code and that phone can be unlocked by them directly.

Vodafone will unlock ANY contract phone free of charge.

I got mine and got it unlocked and sold it on ebay for £60 ish. The J700 is basic, My 12 month old sony was a better phone that this sammy.

Thanks for that. I ordered this deal yesterday so will post this evening to confirm if it's locked or not.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
In this climate what do you think of this deal on mob to your door? They may be part of phones 4 you but doesnt that mean that if things get tight M2YD may be closed first...so would it be safer to get it from phones 4 you and pay the extra?

@ Wortle - makes no difference; it's a trading division of P4U not a different company, so they'd have to shut down P4U to lose out

@ PBA: no need for special delivery - you have a 60 day claim window so recorded is fine and if it doesn't get there, you have time to send in again (copies of bills are required)

I took out the same deal but on £40/month 700mins/250txts full 12 month cashback J700 pink (but they sent silver - didn't care anyway). Have had a contract with them before too.
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

Ah ok. I'm more used to dealing with e2save, who insist on special delivery otherwise they'll lose your letter.
Got this delivered today, and the phone is unlocked. Worked straight away with my O2 SIM.

How can they? Recorded still requires a signature, so either you get proof of receipt or RM will declare your letter a gonner within the month.
