Whats going on with the Freebie Board?

the freebies board has recently come under attack from an obvious troll and for the second time since i've been a member, the troll's account has been deleted :T

now they're back with a new account, simply adding an 's' to their username :rolleyes:

i think we all know who i'm talking about

at every nastiness on the boards lately, that troll was at the centre of it. his scheme is to disrupt the site and damage it and to turn fellow mse members against one another. sadly, in the latter respect, he was quite successful - i saw good members being provoked by him and going at one another

i urge everyone not to fall into this trap and to keep the site friendly and useful.

it won't be long before troll gets deleted again :j

and troll needn't bother pm'ing me either - water off a duck's back in my case :rotfl:

I have no sympathy for the staff because they have chosen to ignore several reports of your behaviour so they are making a rod for their own back. For the past 4-5 days, threads which are sparking heated debate seem to have some input from you.

Wind your neck in, and if you must stay, use the site in the spirit that it is intended - not somewhere for you to pretend you are judge, jury and executioner.

I am a separate "me" too - and DJBenson is FAR too wordy to be "me"( but wordy is fine too, just different).
The very idea - to come on here JUST to make trouble. Life's too short.
I have had a LOT of good sense and practical advice from MSE, and given some too. Thanks all and long may it continue.

When I joined there were about 50,000 - a hefty number indeed compared to the fora I was used to.

Now we have over 350,000 users, among whom there are bound to be quite a few thousands with a short fuse and bad manners. Realistically, I think that just as rudeness is part of life out there, it will be part of life in here. I don't like it one bit but that's how it goes.

That said, I hope this thread is seen by those who are willing and able to examine their responses before hitting the 'submit' button, so at least some unpleasantness can no doubt be avoided.

trouble also with the net is the written word can so easily be misconstrued and so people can fall out over something written in one way which a reader perceives in another.

I know;I've been on the receiving end, and can never understand how a basically decent person can be villified by a forum owner whilst scum and evil people who hack, threaten and cause mayhem are allowed to stay!! (This isn't here btw)

Unless you have a dial up connection you have a static IP

I am a moderator on another forum and if one operson joins as 2 different people, we know straight away. Members of forums can use proxies to join up in a different name to try and avoid detection, but our forum has software installed that prevents people joining under a proxy. All IPs are registered and duplicates immediately show up.
I am sure a large forum like this has similiar software in place.

It has nothing to do with Martin being "all seeing", and as a christian I do not liken him in any way to God. But I am sure he can detect multiple users using the same IP

Forum Manager has asked a line be drawn under the recent squabbling so lets do that and get back to finding some freebies.

GOING FORWARD
So let's draw a line under this and start again. Remember why this board exists, remember not everyone is exempt from making a mistake and remember that we are all here for the same reason - to get some nice freebies and keeping our money very much in our pockets/piggy banks/mattress/garden Gnome (the last one may just be me though)

Be aware that we will be taking a firmer line on here though and we won't hesitate to take action if things do not calm down.
