Cheap Nokia 7600 on 3G but locked to O2??

Would i be right in thinking that you can take out a very cheap contract with 3G for a Nokia 7600.
Get the 7600 reset/flashed so that you can tell the phone to look and only use 2g network - O2, whilst using 3G sim.
So that in effect you pay your money to 3G and make calls using O2 network
Or am i missing something??

hi
if youwhere buying a nokia 7600 you could get the phone by using 3g contract ie pay 12 x £5.99 and then get the phone unlocked to any network and carry on using the phone on 02.
note.the best idea is to get the phone factory reset which uncovers the missing 7 on the menu thus allowing you to use 2g.this should cost around a tenner.
hope this helps0 -
better yet buy it on payg0

I think youve missed the point of what the original poster is saying.
the Nokia 7600 CPW £4.99 per month deal is very cheap! as along with the phone you get 500 free x-net anytime minutes plus 100 free texts per month! and if you can "fix" the phone to only use 3's backup 2G network, you should have near perfect reception everywhere u go, and none of the much reported problems 3 phone users are experiencing.
and you can also get the per month price down even lower, by
a) using carphone warehouses cashback scheme, where u send them an old phone, charger and manual, and they give you a £20 rebate.
and also
b) by purchasing the phone through RPoints, you get £11 cashback!! BTW You can get £5 free just for signing up for an RPoints account via my referral link!! (this will bring the cost of the phone down even more!!!!)
if you use both those cashback schemes you will only be paying £2.40 per month!! or £28.88 for the year!!!!
or £1.99 per month / £23.88 for the year if you also sign up at RPoints via my referral link
btw in answer to the original poster, i think what you are saying is possible, though i myself wonder if "3" wont crack down on people who try that kind of thing, as it might be obvious to them when people are in an area covered by the 3 network, but you are not using the 3 network, they might get a bit suspicious, just IMHO. The reason they wont like it is because they have to pay O2 for using their 2G network, which is why they try and force you to use their own 3G network.

Many thanks for your reply, you understood and have answered my question.
Will now get phone flashed on try to setup so that only uses a 2g signal (o2) without using an o2 sim card.
This should save lots compared to an equivalent o2 contract to those offered by 3.

would "3" notice ? if so would they be happy / able to cut you off (I don't know what the T&C say)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
