I've got a major headache trying to get a MAC code from AOL. I rang them nearly three weeks ago requesting it, got a email a week later saying there's been technical difficulties and it'll take a bit longer. I've been calling them everyday since thursday trying to get hold of it. each time I've been told I need to wait 24Hrs and give them a call back as there are technical diffculties on the line. It appears to be a problem with BT wholesale as far as I can gather.
A supervisor I spoke to said the only way to get me a MAC code is to clear my line, be without broadband for 7-10 days and then get a code. this could leave me at least 20 days without broadband and 20 days still paying AOL for a service I don't want!
I've eventually managed to get through to someone that has a clue and he said he's going to chase it up personally for me. got a call from him today and he said that he's escalated the problem to "Head Office" and I should be able to get a MAC code in 48-72 Hrs.
now should I beleive second supervisor as the first one said that even if I got one it might not work?
also, what are the Ofcom rules with getting a MAC code? should I have expected one within 5 working days? even if it's BT's fault? anyone with any ideas of how to proceed?
Thanks!

5 working days... but its your ISP's problem, not BT's
if they sugges clearing your line - clear it, then sign up with someone else - don't ask AOL to put broadband back on it... just adds time to the switching process if you go that route0 -
Just taken this from Ofcoms website:Your existing service provider must provide the MAC to you within five working days. The MAC is valid for a period of 30 days from the date it is issued.
Not sure how this is affected regarding the apparent technical issues caused by BT. They probably should have informed you sooner rather than later, if they have had problems also this time, why didnt they get in touch after 5 days to inform you of these technical issues?
I've just requested my MAC Code from AOL, im worried now0 -
the situation's been finally resolved.
I called them sat to see why the supervisor hadn't called me and found out that AOL cleared my line on friday even though I explicitly asked them not to as I didn't want a interruption of my broadband service. was also told that I was best off calling back on monday as they were doing some sort of data migration and so couldn't even cancel my account!
called on monday and after having a go at the CSR for half an hour was for refunded 2 months service and got my account cancelled. now just got to wait for my new ISP to activate my line.
grrr....AOL have been soo frustrating.0
