    Sorry, but yes they can.
    Credit is not a right.
It's up to individual companies as to wheher they gie ou credit.

You have been treated poorly by being misled, but basically they can decline you, it's entirely their choice.

I'm speculating but they may have had an internal change to their criteria which has meant you've been refused after being accepted.

I think it's poor and I'm not excusing them at all, but the decision is entirely their whether they want to give you credit or not.

its a bit unfair, the only thing it could be is due to having a few searches done over a short period of time as we have just taken out a first mortgage as i have adverse credit.....were wanting the card to help us in the first couple of weeks in the new house ....thanks lisa

I don’t think it will be down to anything you’ve done, it’s much more likely to be a change of Egg’s policies as lisyloo says.

I was speculating, but a number of people have seen mortgages declined at the last minute due to changes in criteria.
So it's something that has been seen during this credit crunch although it was unusual previously.

Perhaps you should forget credit and just save up for things.
There is very little that you actually need for suvival and I'm sure your family will lend you a few pots and pans for a couple of weeks.

It's old fashioned but not buying things until you have the money is a good way to go and will start you off in the right way.

I would make a complaint on the basis that you were accepted originally.

There have been reports of these type of decisions being reversed once a human being actually looks at the details of the application.

Follow the standard Egg appeals process and detail your concerns about the miss-information that you received.

It's been speculated before that the Egg acceptance/decline is an automatic decision, and then some (or all?) acceptances are reviewed by a "human".

My own thoughts are that they'll pull a few applications for manual review to check their auto acceptance criteria is 'working'. Looks like the OP passed the automatic scoring but failed the manual scoring to me.

I agree it's worth an appeal though. The worst that can happen is the OP incurs an additional credit search...and still doesn't get the card.

How can the criteria change from applying for the card and upon waiting for it to arrive the criteria changes this isnt the price of crude oil you know its surely wrong 1 minute yes you can have the card - next minute you cannot.
i like Egg but this sucks and not a fair policy indeed...

I'm just wondering if -as a trade off-you could possibly ask if the credit search could be removed from your credit file?

    Any harm in negotiating?
