    I don't know how FD operate (only been with them for 6 months), but when Halifax told me there was a pre-approved card (well, 2 actually ;)) waiting for me they DID NOT externally search me.

    As I said in post #4 above though, if you'd rather not incur a credit search then give them a ring and ask. That's what I did with Halifax and they completed the application over the phone. That way, you'd know if they wanted to externally search you because, under their privacy policy, they MUST ask your permission first.
