I've done it!! As of 14.10 today I am bankrupt.
I got to Blackpool County Court 10 minutes before my appointment but was told that things were running a little late. I sat there nervously and was finally called by the bankruptcy clerk after 30 minutes. She told me practically straight away that the judge had done my Bankruptcy Order and so there was no need to see the judge. I let out a huge sigh of relief as I had been so stressed about it. She took me through to a little office and we sat chatting for 10 minutes or so whilst we waited for the official receiver's office to call after she had faxed them the Bankruptcy order. The Bankruptcy clerk was really nice and not judgemental at all and did her best to put me at ease.
A case worker from the Official Receiver's office phoned and the clerk left the room whilst I spoke to them and it was a quick less than 5 minute phone call just confirming spellings, and a couple of quick basic questions and she explained that I would receive a bankruptcy pack in the next few days and I was to fill in the forms enclosed and send them back with any paperwork or correspondence from my creditors. I asked when I would have my interview with the OR and it should be within a week to 10 days and they would send the appointment with the bankruptcy pack and it would probably be over the phone and just going over my Statement of Affairs.
She was really helpful too and told me not to make anymore payments to creditors and to photocopy the Bankruptcy Order and send a copy to each of my creditors to stop them hassling me. If they continue to hassle me then let the OR know and they will deal with it.
I am so relieved that I am bankrupt. Its like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders!!
So I just have the OR forms to fill in when I receive them and the interview to go now. I am a little nervous of the interview now but hopefully everything will be ok with that too. I just want to get it over and done with now and move on with a fresh start and never ever go into debt again. I will definitely be following lots of tips on moneysaving from now on.
I am in the process of opening a Co-op cashminder account and told the OR caseworker and she said that is fine and is perfect for bankrupts. I have been approved for the account but am desperate to get my bank details so I can sort out getting my child benefit and tax credits paid in. Anyone know how long that will take?
I want to say a big thankyou to everyone who has left comments and reassured me that everything would be ok. You are all wonderful people and I will stay on this forum and try and reassure others going through bankruptcy. :AMade Bankrupt on 28/7/08 with debts of £39,437

Hi guys.
After a seriously hot night and stress of not knowing what'll go on today, I barely slept a wink. Tried nudging the missus to talk to her but all I received were grunts and snores...nice:)
Arrived at the court for opening, 8:30am. Sweating, shaking I was nervous to say the least. After asking a security guard as to where I'd need to go to, I then proceeded to go into the relevant room. If the chap that was in there this morning happens to be reading this, a huge thank you for calming me down!
He approached the glass pane to speak to the clark/clerk and was told he needs bank statements of his business' and as such, they couldn't proceed with the initial part of the "interview".
I then stepped up, she went through all of my paperwork and was told that all was fine! I then had to swear on the bible and go sit in the county court room thingy, apologies it happend so fast I can't remember the name! I sat there for a good 40mins, the lady approached me again, whisked me into a room and I then had to sign another piece of paper and speak to the OR on the phone which consisted of a couple of yes and no questions. After this, the immortal words...
"you are now bankrupt..."
Happy days! Met up with the missus, went out for lunch at a bargain £3.50 carvery lunch which wasn't actually that bad and now I'm home wondering why exactly I'd worried myself sick!
A huge HUGE thank you to everyone on here who have helped me, gave me advice and assured me that everything would be ok. I know it's not all over yet but the end is in sight!Bankrupt 28/07/08!0 -
