Find it amusing that VoipBuster are advertising VoipCheap along with the logo of free UK calls.

There is also something by the same company called SIP Discount:

Wonder how many will switch to voipcheap or sipdiscount (and pay their credit in) before their free calls get chopped? Still not bad though, 1 cent/min. (less than 0.8p/min inc VAT) for a daytime call.

Maybe a sign of things to come from all the Finarea companies, including the PSTN access numbers?

Yes, 1 euro cent per minute to UK now on voipbuster.

When they had a user's forum (many months ago) they did say the plan was to start charging from September - so we have had a month more of free calls than was originally expected. At least it should reduce the conjestion there has been on their network and give us fewer busy signals.

So the break even point is now 3 minutes - longer calls than this should be placed via 1889 or 18866 and shorter calls via voipbuster.

On second thoughts it probably won't mean fewer busy signals - as I expect voipcheap and sipdiscount share the same network systems.

I was wondering if the plan might be to move towards charging per minute on all of the Finarea services, 1899/18185/18866 included?

SIP is a form of protocol. I have done a quick google search on it and there is a bit of information about it. However does anyone have some sort of layman's version to it and what sort of equipment you need to use it?

The most popular software for SIP seems to be Xlite, available from here

Voipbuster can also be set up via Xlite, in fact most of the providers use SIP apart from skype. There's also some threads on here if you do a search, and the voipuser.org forum

    http://www.voipuser.org/forum_index.html

    has some useful info.

I was told that they also increased the money to 10 Euros to make free unlimited phonecalls now. I haven't checked it yet. However, it is ok for those who registered earlier with 1 Euro or 5 Euros.

Well, voipcheap uses IAX. It couldn't be set up with ATA adapter which only allows sip protocol.

Didn't know they had done that as well...

You're right, for some reason voipcheap doesn't have a SIP server, only an Asterisk one.

    Voipbuster definately uses SIP though.
