Major Problem with Laptop / Vista Update

Options
Hi

Hoping someone can help me out here. My husband has an Acer laptop running Vista, but it recently updated with service pack 1 I think and now it will not boot up at all.

It will not start at all even when repeatly pressing the F8 ( i think ) at start up. Took it to PC World where it was brought and they said the service pack had !!!!!!ed loads of lap tops and he would have to contact Microsoft for a fix.

He has done that and they have been no help at all, Acer will charge him £50 for a set of disc to try and repair the damage done.

So my question is:
- What can we do to fix it ?

My hubbie knows more than the basic stuff but this has got him vexed!

Any help would be really most welcome

Thanks in advance

Downloaded the programme, and can get an option to go into safe mode etc etc, but it just wont :-(

My husband is really begining to lose his temper as all his stuff is on there. He didn't make a back up ( yes he is a dim wit ) just never got round to it, but at this moment its a heavy papeerweight

Correct me if I am wrong but if the fault is with the pack Microsoft released then why are they not responsible for the damage?

Any other help would be good. PLEASE

Can you describe exactly how far you get on start up?

Have you tried pressing F5 instead of F8?

Can you write down the details of the bluescreen and post them here?

You'll have to follow the instructions in this if you want to do it without formatting and losing your files.

Just read thru instructions, just one snag, no vista disc available as windows pre-installed and no access to vista any other way!
