Has anyone got any idea what graphics card I may need etc etc? Dont want to buy the wrong one0

Well, the main thing depends on if your motherboard is PCI-E or AGP. Easiest way to check is to open up the case and look for the slot. You should see the PCI slots (usually 3 of them) in a line along the side, you may have things plugged into some of them already. Then above them will be the PCI-E/AGP slot. You'll have to google what the look like, I can't do an image search to link them. But it should be fairly easy to tell them apart. Plus, AGP slots are usually brown.
If you can match them up, then check Toms Hardware. They used to do this graphics card roundup every month, but seem to have stopped for no reason. Anyway, it should give you an idea of which cards to look for in which price range, though they should all be a little cheaper by now.0 -
Thanks iviv, I managed to get a graphics card geforce 7200 gs for £25 however it doesnt fit
I am hoping to exchange it tommorow but I wondered if I show you my agp slots you can help? The card is too long for my slot iyswim.

That looks like an AGP slot, but just to confirm, urn CPU Z.
Its a small install, then run it, and go to the 'mainboard' tab. At the bottom, it will show 'graphical interface', and should say AGP.
Now, that means that you most likely picket up a PCI-E graphics card.
Looking at the slot, you should be able to tell what sort of card you have, AGP or PCI-E.0 -

Many moons ago, graphics cards used to be PCI. But then they became too powerful, and thus was born AGP, with the ability to let more data through than a PCI slot, but that was impracticle for most things, so the PCI slot was kept. Eventually, AGP was becoming limited, and PCI-Express was created. This is like PCI, but with an -E on the end, and modern graphics cards need it. PCI-E slots are longer than PCI, and slightly offset.0 -
In reply to the first post about not being able to find help on the web. If you go to the sims resource here, there is a dedicated section of the forum for help and advice on getting your PC to run the sims 2.Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

Hi, the best Sims 2 forum I have found for good information is MATY - http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/
The Sims 2 is a bit funny about graphics cards - the right/wrong graphics card is a lot more important than most other modern 3D games - so the specialist forum will be very helpful.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0
