I just posted this in the techie threads, but on second thoughts this is probably the more appropriate place. Apologies for duplication...
suppose I had a friend who bought a 16gb iphone in the US a few months ago, and unlocked it using ziphone, and had been using it quite happily with an O2 pay monthly sim. Suppose this stupid person then updated itunes on their PC, putting their iphone into recovery mode in the process.
Would you advise them to start the whole unlock process again, and risk losing all their settings and data? Or is there another alternative? They tried using system restore on windows Vista to undo the itunes upgrade, but now just keep getting a new error message saying that quicktime is required to open itunes.
Any help gratefully received!!

Not quite sure of the issue but guess you mean that the new itunes is not working with the iphone.
You can download earlier versions of the itunes software from here http://www.oldversion.com/
Uninstall itunes completely and install the correct version and try.
PS you can also download quicktime from itunes web site for free.0 -

Download iBrickr http://cre.ations.net/creation/ibrickr
once connected should be an option to "Restore", screen will change colour a few times and give it a few seconds n hopefully the slide to unlock screen will appear!SLC: £13000+

Hi.
What firmware are you on?
What screen do you have, the emergency screen? (scrolling slider in foreign languages) or the restore screen (the lead and itunes logo)
iTunes will (if you synced it recently) give you back your photos, texts and numbers, but not your songs, you'll have to add them again.
Has itunes updated your fone to 2.0 firmware? If so, that's a slight pain to downgrade to 1.1.4 but do-able (I did it yesterday)
I can't think why itunes has given you the restore screen. Make sure you untick the auto update feature, and worse case scenario just ziphone it again. You need to determine what firmware you have as it sounds as if the version of itunes is trying to update your f/ware for you, so if you aren't on 1.1.4 now's the time to upgrade. PM me if you need any help

Thanks Pumpa - sorry for late reply but have been at this pretty much solidly for the last 2 days!
Firstly I tried all day yesterday to use winpwn to unlock/activate/jailbreak my iphone which itunes had upgraded to 2.0 version, but just couldn't get that to work.
So then today decided to put phone back to 1.1.4 version, by deleting itunes 7.7 and reinstalling 7.5 on my pc, then using a combination of pwning and iliberty to get my phone back. All is now fine except that I can't make / receive calls. Apparently something to do with the baseband which I need to downgrade with "kiphone", but I am unable to get this to work so far.
Going to call it a night and try again tomorrow - apple is a pretty dirty word in our house at the moment!0 -

Well first and foremost, you've made a bad decision using using ziphone, you should go to https://www.iphone.unlock.de (if the website does not work you may have to use an older version of firefox) and download rlock617.exe. use that instead of ziphone because ziphone is highly unreliable.0
