Question About Paying Money Into A Building Society Account

I have just opened a Cash Transactor account with the Yorkshire Building Society. I would like to set up a bank transfer from my current account but I am not sure what number to put down as the account number. The leaflet says I have a bank account number for direct debits, which is the first 8 digits of the 10 digit reference or roll number. I am not sure whether to make the payment direct to the 10 digit number, or use the 8 digit number and put the 10 digit number as the customer reference.

If you're setting up a payment IN to the Cash Transactor, you'll need to use...

    Sort Code
8-digit account number (the 1st 8 digits of your 10 digit number)
    10-digit account number*

    * The 10-digit number goes in the 'reference' field.

If you're setting up a direct debit from the Cash Transactor account, then you'll only need to provide the originator with the sort code and 8-digit account number, ie the 10-digit account number is not required.
