Signed up to T-Mobile's Flext recently? Check your bill, you might be missing out

I've been on Flext 30 for a couple of months after renewing my contract, and when my latest bill came, it said at the top "Flext 30 gives you £90 of allowance to use as you wish" (or words to that effect) - but on the web site, it currently says Flext 30 = £140 of allowance. So, I queried this and was told it's due to their latest advertising campaign and a step up in competition, so they're matching other providers - I expressed my disappointment in not receiving this higher allowance and the guy immediately offered to upgrade my tariff to this higher allowance, for free, no extra charges - and I still keep the existing customer loyalty discounts which are already applied to my account.

Unfortunately, since I renewed, voicemail hasn't come out of my inclusive Flext minutes and it's charged on (i.e., out of allowance, just like calling people when you're roaming). Just a bit annoying, considering it used to be inclusive to your Flext minutes, and I wasn't told about this beforehand.

So, while voicemail now costs extra (unless you use the 'dial-yourself' loophole) if you've recently renewed a contract, check the allowance you're getting against what they're currently advertising, and you might get an offer which makes up for it! I can now make ~7 hours' worth of calls AND still send 200 text messages a month, which makes it quite palatable for £25 a month (new customer price, I get my package a bit cheaper ;)). I appreciate the flexibility, some months I'll text far more than I call so this makes real sense for me over going for a new SIM-only deal and starting the loyalty process all over again.

(Of course you could often get better minutes with a SIM-only deal as a new customer, but if you're a renewing customer you can't get one of those and they won't price match (believe me, I tried) - and if you want extras such as bundled web access, you pretty much have to go with a contract if you want to get any loyalty discount applied to your account.)

It changed around August last year, IIRC (for new contracts only).

and were you on a 12 month contract, perhaps now you have been locked into 18 months.

With regards to your voicemail not in your allowance, have you tried phoning your own number and seeing if that comes out your allowance?

It's always worth checking to see what upgrades you can get for free, and then securing them, a couple of months before your contract expires and you have to haggle with Customer Retentions.

You are otherwise likely to get offered, as an inducement to continue your contract, what you could already be getting anyway. Whereas, what you actually want is an inducement that improves on that.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

Have been on the flext package for 10 months and I was aware right from the start that voicemail was not part of the allowance
Voicemail retrieval is payable at 12p per call with effect from 12 August 2007. I did debate this with their CS unsuccessfully as it forms part of the package. I wanted to take this further and it was subtly suggested that I email in to the CS management for what it's worth. I am suggesting that the more complaints that are submitted the more notice they will take of it. HTH

How do I do this? If I dial myself, I can leave myself a message, but how do I access other messages?

as long as you have set up a PIN on your voicemail, you can press # while your message to callers is playing, then enter your PIN, and access your VM

if you have not set it up yet, you'll have to take a small hit and dial the voicemail normally (chargeable) to get that PIN set up.

And yes it was around Aug last year that voicemail became chargeable outside of the allowance because when I upgraded, they tried to shift me onto it and I said I expected to stay on what I already had. Minimum one minute charging was the thing that prompted me to ask for that, rather than the voicemail fees.
