Hi all
Were gonna be having new cental heating put in combi boiler so the old back boiler will be ripped out , I then want to knock the cimmney brest out to create a flat wall if u know what i mean lol
I know it will need some support in etc im just wondering how much would this cost to get done ? not the heating just the knocking out of chimney breast
thankyou

we were in the same position 4 years ago most of our lounge which we had knocked through was back to the brick, so we thought 'lets knock it all out.
apparently there is a small risk that it will fall down if you only have the downstairs one removed and a steel put in
We were quoted £3000 to have both chimney breasts taken out from the ground floor level to chimney top level
needless to say we have kept them both and have become very fond of them....Its not how far you fall but how high you bounce back that matters

You cant just take out the downstairs stack, you have to remove whats above as well, so the price starts to really rack up then.0

Mrs Incisor and I have recently rejected 2 houses to buy, in part because the chimney breasts had been knocked out. If it is in a lounge or living room, it is potentially a useful feature to create a focus. Taking it out could reduce the value of your property.Hi all

well i love this house but i jst need to make the kitchen biger and my idea was to knock into this room but i wanted to take the chimmeny breast out so i could run units down there mmmmmmmm maybe i could open it upa nd put my rangemaster in there ?
its funny cos usally its the dinning room of the kitchen but on this house its the room so i was gonna knock the room and kitchen into one then put a stud wall up to turn the dinning room into the new living room0 -
Looks like a good idea to me. OK, it's still a building issue, but that downgrades it from structural and saves you either putting in an RSJ or taking it out all the way to the roofwell i love this house but i jst need to make the kitchen biger and my idea was to knock into this room but i wanted to take the chimmeny breast out so i could run units down there mmmmmmmm maybe i could open it upa nd put my rangemaster in there ?After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

Can you put a boiler on the cooker and run a c/h off that? - you could utilise the existing pipework from the old backboiler.
I think you've got scope to make a feature out of the chimney breast, whats the brickwork like? I got weird taste but I'd suggest tile or plaster the rest of the walls and hang you units on them, but knock off the plaster clean the bricks and point them neatly. with the cooker in there is would look good IMO. If the brick work it tidy.0 -
Gawd we are about to embark on this. I want a chimney breast removed from our back bedroom as it's huge and imposing. You have to put supports up to hold the remaining chimney unless you take it out right up to the top pots included. Your local council are good for coming to inspect the supports and will tell you if they are sh&*te and likely to bring the house down. You have to fill in a form and it costs you about 75.00 to get them to inspect it. I think this is worth it.
Hubs is builder and says that with all of the making good, 800 to 1000 is a good starting point for one breast.0 -
