I think these threads you mention are well worth it. I have been to disneyland Paris numerous times and feel I have a lot of knowledge and helpful info for people, whereas I am going to NY for the 1st time in Feb, and have found lots of great info from the NY thread.
  • spooky yet again me and dmg agree entirely !!!
it sometimes makes me think twice about bothering to post anything on here.
if people haven't got the time to read through an extensive thread why the h$ll should i waste my time and effort pandering to them.
personally when i plan any trip i spend a considerable amount of time checking everything (too much time if i am honest). i leave no loose ends hopefully.
now the board has got to the stage where some are that lazy that they'd rather ask a question on here and take up peoples time replying instead of just looking at a website.
i'm flying with XXXXXX airline ....what's the luggage allowance ?
we want to go somewhere hot on holiday , don't know when , where or any idea of how much we want to pay ....can anyone find us a holiday ?
i've found flights to NY for £150 each can anyone find them cheaper ?
should i buy my dollars now ?
are travellers cheques a good thing?
    etc
    etc

you also get the occasions where someone asks for advice and they get 4 or 5 dead great 100% accurate posts from people who have spent time typing the advice on here.......the response is sometimes ....thanks everyone but i've decided to do exactly what you advised me against doing.

sometimes you couldn't make it up.

as the person who lurks around the NYC thread a lot... and i mean a lot.. i do try to answer as many questions as possible that crop up. Yes we sometimes go off on tangents, but that's because there is the same group of people that answer the posts..

most of the time, if someone asks a question, one of us regulars answers it within the same day it being posted, more often than not earlier..

i totally agree with dmg24 and hammy the hammer too. I've seen posts on there, where people want US to orgranise THEIR holiday for them, with finding everything from the flights, to the hotel, to the transfers. At the point of asking the questions, they have done no research or anything. We ain't travel agents, If you want that doing, go to one, and pay more. If you want to save money, do some research, and then we'll help out if we can beat prices, or advise in anyway possible...

Now i've written 2 guides, telling people where to get flights and hotels from (booking an NYC holiday) and one to how to get into manhattan (getting into and around manhattan) and these should be invaluable resources, to anyone to start off it

However, it doesn't stop people taking the !!!!, and I ain't doing all the leg work, and get nothing out of it at the end, unless they're gonna pay for me to go to NYC as well.. *L*
  • to be honest markymoo you've spent far more time than any other poster helping out people on the NY threads.
a lot of the time you're the one who will search out the cheap flights.....it's a shame that people take the P
