I have a pc and laptop both running windows vista and they are networked on a wireless network. Some files are stored in the user's document/pictures etc folder on the computer and other files are stored in the documents/pictures etc folders on the laptop. it is very annoying having to remember where I store the files that i may want. is there any way to centralize the files, eg have one copy of the documents/pictures folders that can be accessed from both the computers?

you could make copys and put them into ALL users space then you should be able to access them of both pcsReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

I don't want to make copys, i just want a centralized space where I can store all my files that can be accessed from both computers0

Is Vista similar to XP, which IIRC has a default folder specifically for that purpose:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents
which by default is shared by all users (including remote users) of that PC?
You may need to alter the permissions if you want anyone to have write access, as by default it's read-only.0 -
There are other users on the laptop and the pc so I don't want to put the files in the public documents0

Why don't you make a folder directly on the C drive and then give it access permissions as needed.
All of my data is stored in a folder called C:\Data
Inside that are sub folder; Word, Excel, etc, etc.
Folder has read and write permissions for me only.0 -
That requires that the main computer is on whenever you want to acess the files. A NAS device sounds like the best option.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0
