Someone I know reckoned a day off, and travelling to the course 80 miles away, wasn't worth the trouble, and asked to be fined instead - his first offence in about 40 years apparently.0

Its done pretty locally to us so its not such a hardship and if you have a company vehicle I should think its worth it not to have to tell the boss.
It remains to be seen how many people actually reoffend afterwards and thereby whether the course will really have any benefit.0 -
Most speedometers are inaccurate which is why police motor bikes have them recalibrated every day.But it does mean that you could have been travelling at under 45mph.Take a look at the website below and see if there is a technicality that might help. After all I am not aware that there is a law which allows police drivers to test drive new vehicles at speeds of 130mph plus. Why should we be treated differently?

He said 'he got flashed'. I took that to mean a photo taken by a camera and not indecent exposure by a police motor cyclist!0 -

The police only offer it to you if you are marginally breaking the speed limit. I think 52 in a 40 zone will be over that limit. Husband is waiting to attend the course for doing 35 in a 30 zone.
If I remember correctly the wording on his letter was different from the OPs. His said that they may choose not to prosecute, whereas your says that they may choose not to prosecute but fine you instead. I am guessing, but this does sound like they may not offer the course.

Do you get a copy of the photo, or do you have to request it?Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0

They just include the photo on the letter and it's only just over an inch wide. Could barely read my number plate!
Looks like I'll be getting the points then! Doh!0 -
hmmm... just wondering as i got the same letter as you, but the only camera i remember triggering was on the opposite side of the duel carridgeway i was on.Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0

Try spraying your number plate with photoblocker0
