I got flashed about 10 days ago and got letter from the Police about it. I totally hold my hands up but I just wanted to know what the process is.
A mate who got caught said his letter notified him of his fine and penalty points and was told to send his license off. Mine is totally different.
My letter is a notice of intention to prosecute. Near the bottom it says "in ceratin circumstances, where the driver has been identified, it may be decided not to proceed with a prosecution but to offer the alternative of a fixed penalty.
Does this mean they are going to take me to court? I have a clean license but was doing 52mph in 40mph zone?

Hi Southernscouser,
I think that you will probably just get a fixed penalty of £30 and 3 points on your licence. I think that you normally get the standard letter "NIP" - notice of intention to prosecute which has a request for details of who was driving.
This website should help as to the penalties involved

Southernscouser,
Just gone through this
This is stage one, this letter should state clearly DO NOT send licence.
Fill in the details and then send back to Police.
Second stage, letter from Court, which will ask for £60 and licence for endorsement (paper part - if new type - only)
John
P.S. Should inform insurance of SPXX code - but will not affect premiums unless classed as reckless or dangerous!0 -
It's £60 actually. Well, that's what I had to pay for doing a similar amount above the limit.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Oh OK so this is normal procedure. All Ihad to do was confirm who was driving and address and that sort of thing.
Was just worried it was gonna be more than the normal fine and points, although I suppose it still could but not likely.
Was kind of hoping it might have somehting to do with the new scheme where they make you attend a speed awareness thing instead of getting points or was that all rubbish.
Oh well, never mind, my own fault. Will have to slow down in the future.0 -

.
IF they offer you that, and is it a real thing, that would be the next stage, they first needed the information on the driver.0 -
Are you willing to fight it, or are you gona just pay up?0

Nah I'm gonna pay it. It's my own fault. I was doing 52mph in a 40mph zone. No-one to blame but myself.0 -

The speed awareness course is definitely real and worth taking up rather than getting the points on the licence.0 -

sorry typo on my part, was trying to say it is real, rather than is it..
yes it is worth taking IF it gets offered, still have to pay the £60 which covers the course and spend a few hours on the course but way better than 3 points..
can only do the course once though0 -
