giving notice on 3/fending off the offers whilst abroad??

I shall be abroad when my 28 days notice is due (I intend to give 28days notice to go P+G and wait for the offers).
In a way it would be a good time to sit and beat them down re renewal BUT I don't want to be paying 10p/min to recieve their calls (or 25p/min to be kept holding to give my notice either).
Can I give notice in writing or preferably email with a date for action? If I do this, I guess I can just leave the phone off, but that isn't very good. I'm not "indespensible" to anyone really but my elderly parents, and my work may need to get in touch.

I always thought that you must give 28 days notice, but that there is nothing to stop you giving more. Why not ring up and ask? It might even be that you can transfer to PAYG now...*I reserve the right to have an opinion, the right to change this opinion and the right to be wrong.*Hope that helps. Also best to write a letter to give notice - these companies "prefer" that approach. Wonder why! Oh and when you send it - send it signed for delivery - that way you have proof on royal mail site you can check while on holiday or even before you go on hol.0
