NTL - Customer ha-ha Service

I tolerate NTL service on TV and Broadband but think they have just broken my tolerance level. My e-mail died last week, and a very nice lady in India was able to check and determine it was an NTL problem.
As I need email and web access for my business NTL said they would rush an engineer out in 5 days! I am now sat here, having taken a day off to wait for the engineer, fuming. 1 minute before he was due to arrive, I get a call saying sorry - no engineer available.
I pointed out that I had lost a day's money and had advised the operator of this when I made the appointment, NTL's response is to tell me to get lost.
Is there no way these companies can be called to account?? Any suggestions please.

There have been loads of threads about ntl's customer 'service'.
We are with them too and they are shockingly bad.
We persistently complained over one particular issue , and we got fair compensation (6 months free broadband). But you do have to really nag them..Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
yep me to terrible terrible company but cheep that said they owe me £100+ at the min which they refuse to put back in my account (they took it without permision ) that they sould not have taken in the first place as i was £17 pound in credit then Discracefull0

Agree agree agree. Awful. Mine was while moving and being told seven different things by seven different customer service people in a day. When the engineer finally arrived after two weeks, he had not been told to do half the work, he was feelance and said ntl always do it. I have sent in a complaint twice, never recieved any acknowledgement. Been given three different addresses for complaints, the lastest ill put below in case you want to have a pop too...

Good luck. I'm leaving back to bt for line rental, justcall and call.1899 for calls, and hopefully someone else for broadband.Littlewoods catalogue - won back charges of £300 by default.

I cannot believe it..our phone has been off for four days now..with three promises of an engineer coming out.
when i called they acted like they were doing me a favour by saying someone could come next thursday!
i am due to have a baby and me and OH don't have a mobile, so will have to go out and get two this weekend just incase which will cost us a lot of money we don't have..

...and why would it be that n-power, having being told our gas was off promised to get there in four hours, but arrived within two and sorted the problem..
yet ntl take forever..!?
fair enough..i can now be be warm and cook food whilst in labour, but i'll need to call my midwife and my mum more than that!heheheheheMembre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0
