I am at my wits end, some help or assistance would MAJORLY be appreciated.
I am more than likely missing something so obvious, it is stabbing me in the nose!
I got a new TV yesterday along with a new DVD Video Recorder.
I set it all up and the TV is up and running, I can watch my Cable through it. My DVD/Video player is up and running in the sense that I can watch Videos and DVDs BUT I cant get the TV channels to run through the video (so I can record things off TV).
These are the connections Ive made.
TV to Video - Scart Lead
TV to Cable box - Scart Lead
Video to Cable box - Scart Lead
and I have the normal lead (aerial, Im assuming) going into the cable box.
I am so sorry because I know I sound like a total noob!!!

Did you RTFM before you started setting it all up?0

what is RTFM?:xmastree: :snow_laug Christmas Nutter :snow_laug:xmastree:0

Yes I did and then I went through it again step by step as I was setting it up. The section that tells me to "scan for the channels" comes up with 0 channels found:xmastree: :snow_laug Christmas Nutter :snow_laug:xmastree:0

Pls be nice to all MoneySavers.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.
Now, Dani85
- I'm wondering if your equipment may not be suitable for cable
This will mean that you have to set the cable box to the channel you want to record / view.
Can you check the manual on this?0 -
Simple solution would be to remove the TV to Cable SCART and just use the path Cable-Video-TV. You'd need the Video on all the time (unless it's got proper pass-through in standby).
The possible problem with your setup is that you may have the SCART inputs to the Video the wrong way round. One is probably transmit only and the other will be transmit and receive. Try swapping them round and see if that solves the problem.0 -
Garetha, I expected at least one reply like that
Yes the guy in the shop and the manual says that I can only record the channel that is being displayed on the cable box, but it just doesnt seem to want to find the channel and the manual is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. Gives loads of troubleshooting on playing VHS and DVD problems but not tuning etc.:xmastree: :snow_laug Christmas Nutter :snow_laug:xmastree:0 -
With our setup its pretty similar to you....if I want to watch a dvd etc the tv switches to "aux" & plays but if I want to record or watch tv through the recorder I have to switch to "aux" or "ext" by hand....might be something as simple as that...i'm puzzled about your ariel connection? we've virgin cable & i dont have an ariel at all everything is connected by scart like youWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

It is not me being not nice. It is a standard question! Whenever people get something new they just charge right into setting it up without actually reading the instructions first. Admit it, you do it too.
It sounds to me that the OP just doesn't have the correct scart to scart setup. Not that I am an expert!
If I was at home I would look at mine and let you know. I have cable (Virgin) and also a Video recorder and a DVD player all linked together and they work fine. I can record on the video no problem.
I will have a look later on and try to get back to you.
Cheers!0 -
Hi Dani
What type of cable box do you have - digital or analogue?
Do you have a roof aerial as well as a cable lead going into your cable box?
Are the channels you have tuned your tv into analogue or digital terrestrial?"...IT'S FRUITY!"0 -
Studiorex, I did the cable-video-tv and it has now found the channels and I have just tried and I can now record from TV. (I can now return the spare scart lead to my upstairs TV now!!) I dont need the Recorder on to view cable which is a bonus.
Thank you so muchand thank you to everyone else that replied, I nearly tore my hair out last night with it and it was something so simple!!
