today my husband recieved a letter thanking him for joining something called Travel Steps, following a recent mail order purchase. My husband never buys anything over the internet, I do, but have as far as I know, haven't ticked to join anything, it is a thirty day free trial, which we can cancel, which we hope we can, just wondered if anyone had heard of them.

Sometimes companies offer you £10 off,and you click that and find you have subscribed to a monthly fee being taken from your account. If it was me,I would cancel it now.0

I got one too, have emailed them to cancel. I did not sign up to anything or give my details to any salesperson over the phone. The only connection I can see is to a mail order DVD company called Goodmusic now in administration, I had made a purchase a few months ago from them which was never delivered and a sales rep from a company connected to them rang me about a week ago and asked if it was OK to send me a brochure. I presumed this was for DVDs and CDs but maybe not, it all seems just a little sinister.
Details of how to cancel are on the back of the welcome letter.0 -
Hi, Thanks for answers, I rang them and had no problems canceling, I asked them how they had got my name, and they said it was probably from when my husband ordered some DVD's. Anyway job done, just glad I read the letter, cos after 30 days free trial, they were going to debit my CC. for £99.00 yearly subscription.0

Yesterday I received a letter thanking me for joining something called Travel Steps, following a recent mail order purchase. This was as a result of a phone call made to me as I had previously bought goods from a company called Good Music, which I understand is now in administration. In the welcome letter there is a note stating that after the end of a Thirty Day Free Trial I have to do nothing to keep the membership, as £99 will automatically be debited to my debit/credit card.
My advice is to cancel the alleged membership immediately using one of the methods listed on the back of the welcome letter. i would also advise keeping a copy of the cancellation note and watching your credit/debit statements very carefully and immediately querying with your credit/debit provider if you find Travel Steps (or Pressplay Home Shopping) has debited your account without your permission.0 -
I also received a letter this morning from this company. I do remember a phone call from the music company about a week ago asking whether they could send me a brochure to which I said vtes. There was no mention of any membership or joining fees.
I cancelled by telephone this morning and spoke to a customer service rep. There seemed to be no problem with this, but to make sure I also tried to cancel by email but they are being returned as being spam mail by their filters. Anyone using email to cancel must be sure they are getting through.0 -
I also received the same post this morning, also following a phone call from Goodmusic whom we had previously dealt with. A point I would like to add is that during the phone call (with no mention of Travel Steps either) the caller asked for place of birth, apparently to be used as a reminder of the phone call?? Since then I have been informed that credit card fraud has been attempted, so I suggest that you all check with your card companies too! I wonder what else may follow.0

i also got the same letter today thanking me for a recent purchase and offering the 30 day trial blah blah ...
just checked my bank statement and see that £1 was debited by home shopping a couple of days ago ?, querying it with bank and have emailed pressplay home shopping to cancel and refund ,very worrying this.0 -
The music company goodmusic is not listed with companies house, unless it has another name. Do they actually exist?
If you google" pressplay ddhe" it takes you to a link from another forum which is still in the google cache which has since been edited,to edit out a similar complaint.May be worth posting on that thread too?0 -
goodmusic is or was the trading name of Haysbridge Uk Ltd which is shown going into administration per London Gazette 26th June. However there is now a new website, same phone number for http://www.goodmusic.co.uk/ which hopes to start at end of August 2008. Seems to be part of Capital Ideas Retail Ltd now. Also does anyone know if it is legal, cos it certainly doesn't seem right, that a company who has been given your credit card details for one purpose should use it for a totally different one as Travel Steps seems to have done. When I asked on the phone they just said it was one of their other companies who had passed the details along as if that made it all right!0

I too had a phone call which led to a brochure being sent. No mention of joining anything and nothing other than a catalogue agreed to. The catalogue thought to be a music one
This morning i'm offered 30 days with travel steps and lifestyle & leisure! and if i don't cancel within 30 days 99.00 will be deducted from my debit/credit card.
By now I am hopping mad, so I rang to cancel explaining that nothing agreed to only the catalogue which I had been led to beleive was a music type thing.
I have been informed the 'subscription' has been cancelled, but that 'an Admistration fee may be charged over which she had no control and if so to call back and it would be refunded'
I am more mad than ever now, that someone is dishonestly calling people, arranging things not required then taking money from them without any permission.
Surely something can and must be done?
What can I do?
And another thing that has bugged me is its a flipping 0870 number!!!!:mad:0
