  • I've just re-read his auction write up. Not sure if this is the reason he's not replying-
"IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE SEND THEM TO !!*Read the auction for email add*} NOT VIA THE 'ASK SELLER' OPTION ON EBAY AS I MAY NOT REPLY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS - BY THEN THE AUCTION MAY HAVE ENDED."

Also, you never mentioned that he wanted the cheque made out to another name, just the fact that he wanted it sent to another address???

thats because he has sent another e-mail and i have been sending e-mails to his alternative address as well as his ebay one.

  • The only time I have encountered the "do not use ask a seller a question & e-mail me via this address instead" request on an auction it is because somebody has hi-jacked the account.

If I was you, I would use the "ask seller a question" link to get them to confirm if this is an auction he has set up himself. I should suspect he'll check his eBay account regularly if he's selling things & messages sent this way show up there also.

Might be worth doing this before you make a final decision.
  • Well OP, there's some bad news for you I'm afraid- He's relisted the item on a 1 day auction! Item number 6815380071. So it seems that you won't be getting the item after all and that final decision has been made for you. :(

I'm not on anybody's side here, I try and look at it from all angles. I really don't believe that this is a hijacked account. We have to remember that we are only hearing one side of this story here. We haven't heard what he has got to say on this transaction. Maybe he was against the idea of COD, or maybe he is plain dodgy..I doubt we will ever know.

Just a thought but is he charging over the odds for postage? I've found that whenever I've asked sellers if I can pick the item up in person I have had them say they only accept postal payment and will have to post the item to me and the postal costs have been much much higher than they have actually spent. In other words they are making money out of the postage costs and don't want you to pick it up by hand as they won't be making extra money.

Be a bit pointless sending payment now anyway, check my previous post- It has been RELISTED!

Black Saturn- The postage was £25. The auction was for 3 items. A Laptop, an Ipod and a camera. (see item no in my previous post) If the whole package weighed over 2kg (which i suspect it would) and he sent it via Special Delivery, that would be £19 anyway. As this only covers items up to £500 he might add insurance on top of that to cover himself...I can't see this being the reason somehow

  • regarding the £25 postage, i told him i would still pay it but he still said no. He sent another email last night demanding payment in 24 hours!

TO be fair, there is no obligation for a seller to allow you to go to their home address - plenty of people don;t want that to happen, not for dodgy reasons but it might be inconvenient, or they just might not want complete strangers coming round their house. I wouldn;t want that, as a single female it would make me feel uncomfortable.

He stated his conditions for payment in the auction, and you should always get questions like these answered before you bid and win. If you bid and win you are agreeing to the stated conditons, which did not include a home visit.

TBH I think you're being unreasonable and I don;t blame him for relisting it.

Well he's sold the item now, for more than you won it for. Remember that the terms you weren't happy with were clearly set out in the listing, so you should cooperate with him getting his fees back (it will have cost him about £20!)

Since he has now sold the item to someone else, you can both file disputes, but hopefully you will be able to come to an arrangement to mutually agree not to complete the sale. That way neither of you ends up with a strike on their account.

i was actually still willing to send payment but not to another name or address.

would you send £590 to another name and then post it to another address!
