Sorry for the confusion soolin. I got 99p for the item (minus 7p fees I think) and I should use nearly all the stamps I think (its to send 76 coins so it's pretty heavy!). The 12p has to cover my packaging, packaging time and the 20 minutes to the PO and back.

I am still a bit confused..you sold the item for a total of £3.99 and that's what you have received? The buyer hasn't decided what costs you have added, you did that when you set the auction up. All the buyer has done is send a book of stamps in part payment, which you are perfectly entitled to refuse if you wish and return them. However you have still saved more accepting the stamps and cheque than you would if you had taken paypal. if you do return them all and ask for a new payment and the buyer decides to pay by paypal you would be worse of, so I wouldn't risk it personally.

You charged him for postage, he sent stamps.

    Not unreasonable in my opinion.

Except the actual term is postage and PACKAGING , i dont think you can use stamps to buy jiffy bags and bubble wrap..

even if someone pays with paypal, it's not that money that i use to pay for the postage. i'll pay with cash i have and wait until i can withdraw the paypal money later. the stamps are kind of the same thing. i'd post it as you were intending and then keep the stamps to use as you see fit - saves you paying for them later. i wouldn't even dream of sending him back any unused stamps, not at all!

even though i can see this is a 'problem' as such, i do think it is a bit odd for the buyer to have done this without asking your first - are they new to ebay?

no its not a new ebayer, he has 1700 feedback.

the annoying part of this for me is having to take a cheque for £1.11 into the bank!

but the thing to do is wait until it after it clears to post it - and i certainly wouldn't have time to get to a bank until monday at the earliest.... that'll teach him!

Just watch the star ratings though if you dither for too long..most buyers tend to mark down if they don't get their items quickly, regardless of how or when they paid.

That would have been great, but he's already sent me a message saying that's there's no rush, he doesn't need these for a month or two. I was just gonna send it immediately, so I don't have to think about it any more!

Ive just joined up with ebid .co.uk and also usesawpshop.co.uk
I won't be using ebay to buy or sell anymore. I used to sell bits - junk mainly - approx £100 a month mainly paid to paypal which I also paid for postage online there, and then spend my balance on ebay.

Ok its not a massive amount but count the many leaving who did simular and soon you find ebay lose a fair few fees and most unforunately sellers not making the money so much anymore.

Ebay should be packed out right now with people who are skint trying to rise a bit of cash.
I have to admit I'm not overly surprised to find some of the local carbooties have increased massively in size but can't be bothered to do it myself.

I often would just browse around ebay, and would bid if I saw something I liked, not neccessary cheap things
  • Presumably the buyer is trying to make a point but at the end of the day it all totals the sale price. Actually sending stamps seems quite a good idea. Surely its better than an uncrossed postal order as the sender doesn't pay a fee.
