dont understand the issue, does it matter that in th other languages it doesnt say once opened eat within 3 days

yes, why should it be different for other countries? Just shows how "hooked" we are by "sell by" and now "eat by" dates

Erm, because the label is telling you that the food must be eaten in 3 days when it clearly isn't the case. You know it, I know it but far too many don't and will go by what it says on the tin.

Some people in the UK actually throw food away on the "Best Before" date, because they've been frightened so badly by media reports about food poisoning and TV ads saying you need to sterilise all surfaces with bleach before even thinking about preparing food.

    Exactly.! Thank you:beer:

    I am told I need to keep a jar of jam in a fridge,once opened.That's rubbish,it's a "preserve".
I can make up my own mind about these types of things.

Mrs Shandypants has a system where by, if it smells/looks ok then we can eat it.

After that, once it gets a bit risky she puts it in my sandwiches for work  .

What I dont know dont hurt me, apparently.

I keep gherkins for aaaages, they're in pickle! they're hardly gonna go off after 3 days... just a scam to make you chuck 'em and spend money on a new jar.

I know that, you know that, some others don't know that:confused:

I've noticed that 'premium branded' jars of preserves, pickles, spreads etc are less likely to have the 'keep deep frozen and use within 3 and a half minutes of opening' warning on them. Does this mean the more expensive the brand, the more preservatives they contain????
Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small
