Speeding Ticket

Sorry if this has done before guys, but I thought I’d pick your brains about it.
Just got a letter informing me that I was caught speeding by a mobile speed camera in North Wales doing 35mph in a 30mph zone. However, I remember at the time looking down at my speedo at the time and feeling quite smug that I was doing bang on 30.
It’s highly annoying as I’m actually an extremely careful driver, and despite doing 20’000miles per year, I never speed. Any thoughts if I can do anything about this?
Many thanks.

Welcome to MSE
Make sure the notice arrived (or was posted to arrive) within 14 days of the alleged offence. If not, they can't enforce it.
Your best course of action would be to head over to www.pepipoo.com as they are the experts who will be able to advise you best. There's an NIP Wizard you need to complete there which will give regulars the info needed to help you out. It may involve asking for a copy of the video. Good luck & keep us updated0 -
Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look over there!0

A reading of 35 in a 30 is a bit harsh to get a ticket.
It sounds like your speedo might be out. Probably best to get it checked.0 -

I actually had a speedo problem a couple of years back and had the 'speed sensor' changed.
Very annoying, I'd say the speed was hovering around 30, but no more than say 32mph.0 -
As Crabman says, Pepipoo is the place to get chapter and verse on fighting this.
As one of the veterans there (19 "wins" from 23 cases), I can tell you to be prepared for a long battle, possibly lasting many months, with all kinds of distortion of the law from the other side. But if your original assertion is right, and you weren't speeding, the videotape (not just a couple of still frames) should confirm this, and give you a just result.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -

Yup, could have been this one.... Funny looking horse that is.
See http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article979735.eceSPEEDCAM-crazy chief constable Richard Brunstrom is employing a new undercover weapon – a HORSEBOX.
Two officers from his North Wales force hide inside with a mobile camera.
Yesterday it was parked on a straight 60mph stretch of road near Llanrwst.0 -

There have been cases of laser based systems picking up reflections etc. I'd request info on the exact location of the alleged offence and check whether that's the same location as where you checked your speedo.Happy chappy0

Unfortunately there is no legal requirement for speed camera signs or any mobile units to have fluorescent yellow markings etc. The only legal requirement is for the speed limit signs to be correctly displayed.
Looks like a sniper!0
