I read on here a while ago that one member of staff at Asda was sacked for giving all the reduced stuff to 'a friend'. Maybe Tesco have that policy also? Best way to do it without raising your profile would be to contact Tesco Head Office and, firstly, enquire what their policy is and, if same as Asda, tell them the store where it's happening (mentioning no names) and suggest that a memo is sent reminding staff of their obligations? Better than 'outing' yourself at the store's customers services desk IMO.

Round here there is usually is a whole group of people who wait for the reductions, it can get "intense" at times.
The meat reductions never get anywhere near 70p either!

we are some of the people who go after the end of day sales at morrisons and asda especially. We call it cheapo hunting. If the shop shuts at 8pm we go shopping at 6:30pm. Head straight off to the cheapo sections, do some normal shopping and then go back to the cheapo sections a few times in the following hour. We then go to them just before the shop shuts and get some great bargains.

    best ones

    fully cooked chicken - 40p

    10 sausage rolls - 50p

large!! chocolate cream cake 30 cm across 35p. we made it last 3 days.

most things are about 75% off.

we pay 15p for a loaf of bread - warbutons and out it in the freezer

most things go in the freezer - its bursting

we then defrost it in the fridge and eat things the following day.

we also eat food that is 4 - 5 days out of date. I've never had any problems with this. Milk and yogurts I tend to smell first - just incase.

there's a thrill with cheapo hunting!! mad trolly dashers.

We hang around certain aisles with others like lions waiting for the kill. and then go like vulches when the hand gun staff come out.

We also follow the reducing staff with the sticker hand guns to see where they are going.

We have also been know to haggle. Staff wanted to sell us 4 chicken and mushroom bakes the other day for 50p, we said make it 5 and you have a deal. It works, they don't want the products left at the end of the day as they have to record them as unsold.

I have been converted to a yellow sticker hunter by this site. I go shopping on a Sunday at 2.00pm with my husband and our toddler twins. We head for the two chiller cabinets where they put the reduced stuff. Go through it selecting what we want, only buying stuff we can freeze. We then carry on doing our normal shopping round the store, soap power, toiletries, nappies etc. We then head back to the reduced chiller at 3.40 where the helpful SA reduces all our already reduced stuff down to 75% off.

We dont fight over the stuff in the chiller, but we have had people try to take stuff out of our trolley before now and get cross with us when we tell them it is ours. The staff are happy to further reduce the items and are never rude or impolite about it. Afterall, it will be thrown away, which I think is a sin as most of it is freezeable. We usually spend between £25 and £35 on reduced freezable meat, pizzas etc. Which would cost us between £100 and £140 if we paid full price. All of the food is perfectly fine, we have had Tesco finest Gammon reduced down to £3 something this week from over £16 as well as Pizza Express pizzas down to 96p from close to £4.

Ive had other customers look at us and actually say, OMG are they sure? Yes, we are sure. With the price of everything going through the roof I need to save money wherever I can. I think the people who pay full price for stuff just because of some kind of pride are mad, totally insane!!! I think yellow sticker hunting is a necessity to stop the sin that is wasting food. I salute all bargain hunters!!

OP i sympathise with you, i work in a supermarket and as i work weekends i see the worst of it, when the stuff is reduced real cheap there will be a group of people of said religion all looking at what is reduced and they sometimes wipe it out totally leaving nothing for other people, we've had instances of these people hassling other staff to reduce this piece of fish when its too early or theyre not allowed to reduce it yet as they need to be told when to do it, ive noticed this guy will stand not far from me while i reduce the fresh items, i could be there for 20 minutes reducing the items and he will just wait for me to finish then he moves in,

i dont know about other stores but afaik there isnt a limit as to how much reduced items one can have

your right but where i work we're not allowed to reduce stuff to 5 or 10p, its got to be at least 20p if we get told to do final reductions, we're apparently losing alot of money and tehy see this as a way of cutting that loss down

Thick question. As most items have at least 5-7 days date on them apart from some cakes and breads and stuff off deli and fish counter. Why do you not start to discount it 2 days before. Surely that would mean you would never have to reduce to something silly like 20p. As people would buy it with say 30p reduction in price..

Now there may be some obvious reason why that is. But I am just lost as to what it is.

Two of my local supermarkets reduce down to 10/20p a item. I have three slices of pre-packed beef from the best ranges for 10p when it retails for £2.99 and a beef joint that was nearly £12 for 70p. Does not happen very often but when it does it a bonus for me.

    Yours
